Floating Sea Aquatics in Jacksonville, Florida is unlike any fish store you've walked into. Part aquarium retailer, part animal rescue, part café — it's a sprawling space where display tanks featuring sharks sit alongside saltwater clownfish, large cichlids, shrimp, and freshwater species of every stripe. The store also doubles as a reptile rescue, rehoming bearded dragons, turtles, tortoises, and snakes alongside its aquatic inventory.
The atmosphere is deliberately inviting. There's a café serving coffee, milkshakes, and food, with comfortable seating and even board games available. A dedicated kids' play area makes it a genuine family destination — reviewers regularly compare it to interactive 'please touch' exhibits around the city.
You can easily spend an afternoon browsing display aquariums that rival standalone attractions, with sharks and exotic species on full view. The fish selection spans both saltwater and freshwater. Shoppers have purchased Black Ocellaris and Picasso Ocellaris clownfish, and the store stocks a noteworthy selection of larger cichlids that draws hobbyists looking for specific species.
Aquatic plants, shrimp, and a full range of aquarium supplies round out the inventory. Staff members like Devon and Finn are frequently called out by name for their deep knowledge — Devon for fish advice, Finn for guiding a family through a bearded dragon adoption with detailed care recommendations. One important note for serious fishkeepers: at least one customer reported a Brooklynella outbreak affecting saltwater fish, so running your own quarantine protocol before adding new arrivals to an established system is wise.
This is standard practice for many hobbyists, but worth emphasizing here. Floating Sea Aquatics has carved out a unique niche in Jacksonville by blending retail, rescue, education, and dining into a single destination. It's the kind of place where grandparents bring grandkids on a Wednesday afternoon, where hobbyists hunt for their next cichlid, and where someone who doesn't even own a tank drops by just because the experience is worth it.

It was a nice time. Not a very big place or as I attractive as I thought it might be. But a nice little walk before getting lunch

I purchased one Black Ocellaris clownfish and one Picasso Ocellaris clownfish from this store. Ten days later, both fish died from Brooklynella, a highly contagious and often fatal parasite. After contacting the store, I was informed that they were experiencing an outbreak in their tanks at the time of my purchase. When I asked why customers were not notified, I was told that notifying customers “wasn’t possible.” While the staff was friendly during the sale, selling fish during a known disease outbreak without disclosure is unacceptable. Brooklynella can wipe out entire systems and causes significant financial loss to customers. This store may be fine for browsing or asking questions, but I would strongly caution anyone purchasing fish. Assume the fish are not quarantined and use your own QT system before introducing them into a display tank.
