Exotic Aquatic in Fort Lauderdale has been a fixture of South Florida's aquarium scene for over two decades, and the loyalty of its long-time customers speaks volumes. Owner Rob and staff members like Ryan and Devon have built a reputation for deep knowledge and genuine care — whether they're helping someone set up an octopus habitat or guiding a newcomer through their first betta selection. The store operates out of a relatively newer location that reviewers describe as clean, well-organized, and inviting, with tanks that are clearly maintained to a high standard.
Fish health is a consistent theme across reviews — customers report that specimens purchased here tend to arrive home in excellent condition, from guppies and apistogrammas to pea puffers and starfish. The saltwater side features a solid selection of marine fish and corals, though stock tends to lean toward smaller specimens. Freshwater offerings include cichlids, bettas (with an especially impressive range of fancy varieties), and an assortment of rare and unusual species that draw hobbyists from as far as Weston.
Beyond livestock, Exotic Aquatic sells saltwater and RO water at prices customers call very reasonable — a major draw for reefers who bring their own buckets for regular refills. Equipment inventory is more limited, which has frustrated some shoppers looking for specific gear, but the store positions itself primarily as a livestock destination with knowledgeable consultation. They also offer tank maintenance services, with technicians that regulars praise as true professionals.
The store does get busy, and staffing can be thin during peak times — several reviewers mention waits when only one employee is on the floor. Pricing draws mixed opinions: long-time customers find it fair, while some visitors from out of area feel certain items run high. But for Fort Lauderdale aquarists seeking healthy, carefully kept freshwater and saltwater fish backed by staff who genuinely know their trade, Exotic Aquatic delivers where it counts most — in the quality of what goes into your tank.

Besides the RO water not being RO the store keep very minimal stock on equipment, and the equipment they do stock will be sold to you missing parts. I purchased a return pump, the only one they had as an aquarium store that was missing parts I needed to set it up, save your self the aggravation and go see reefs edge. Poor management and I blame the owners. They do not give the employees the tools to succeed. Very disappointing.
