Greenwich Aquaria in Riverside, Connecticut has carved out a loyal following among aquarium hobbyists across Fairfield County and neighboring Westchester. This tropical fish showroom stocks both freshwater and saltwater species, with a coral and reef selection that keeps serious reefers coming back — one longtime customer with a 300-gallon reef tank built into his foyer wall described walking the aisles like being a kid again. The store also draws freshwater enthusiasts with offerings like lemon and blue peacock cichlids, discus (one buyer picked up six at prices well below competing shops), and eye-catching plecos in display tanks.
The physical space punches above its weight. Multiple reviewers call it one of the best-looking fish stores they've visited, with clean tanks, a pleasant smell (no small feat for an aquarium shop), and thoughtful displays that make browsing genuinely enjoyable. Live plants and hardscape materials round out the inventory for planted tank builders, and the dry goods section covers tanks, accessories, and equipment.
Staff members Jacob, Liav, Evan, Matt, and Jason come up repeatedly by name in reviews, and their willingness to walk customers through first-time tank builds is a consistent theme. Jacob in particular draws praise for his reef knowledge, while Evan earns loyalty for his no-pressure, detail-oriented approach. The store seems to take a full-service philosophy — guiding newcomers through every step from tank selection to stocking, while giving experienced hobbyists the kind of honest, informed conversation that big-box stores can't replicate.
One customer even noted the staff helped rehome cichlids on short notice. Pricing sits in a reasonable range for the area, especially given Greenwich's upscale zip code. The store runs periodic sales events — up to 30% off — announced via email without the usual spam bombardment.
For aquarists in the Stamford-to-Greenwich corridor looking for healthy stock and genuine expertise, Greenwich Aquaria consistently earns its reputation as a top destination in Connecticut.

Had a great experience here. We’re building our first aquarium and we came in to look at what was available, the selection of fish, hardscape materials, plants and accessories is great, if a little pricier than other places. What made up for cost was the staff, Jacob was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable, he helped us with every question we had and I couldn’t be more thankful. Out of all the fish stores in Westchester and Greenwich, this one is by far the best!
