Harris In Wonderland in Canton, Connecticut is primarily an exotic reptile and amphibian destination — but it deserves a mention for anyone hunting down tropical freshwater fish and feeder animals in the area. Walking through the front door feels less like entering a pet store and more like stepping into a small-scale zoo. Ball pythons, hognose and corn snake morphs, bearded dragons, blue tongue skinks, red foot tortoises, dart frogs, and even sugar gliders line the walls in what customers consistently describe as a fascinating menagerie.
The fish selection, while not the store's main draw, includes tropical freshwater species like guppies and other community fish. Reviewers note it's a modest but solid offering — better than the typical big-box pet store, though not the reason most people make the drive. Where Harris In Wonderland truly shines is in its live and frozen feeder inventory: pinkies, fuzzy mice, hoppers, rats, crickets, and roaches are well-stocked and competitively priced, making it a reliable stop for reptile keepers across the region.
Owner Adam and his staff earn consistent praise for honest, knowledgeable guidance. One customer recounted how a staff member actively talked them down from a larger purchase, recommending smaller quantities of bedding to try first and suggesting the right feeder size for their corn snake — saving them roughly half of what they expected to spend. That kind of integrity builds loyalty.
Another customer highlighted the store's willingness to source specific animals, like mint terribilis dart frogs, on request. The enclosures are generally well-maintained, and feeding demonstrations — like watching the resident snapping turtle eat — delight visiting families. Birds including parrotlets, cockatiels, and sun conures round out the selection.
While the store's freshwater fish section is a secondary feature, Canton-area aquarists looking for guppies, feeders, or a genuinely interesting afternoon of animal-watching will find the trip worthwhile.

Worst smelling pet store I’ve ever been to. Almost looks like an animal hoarding situation, we wanted to take pictures but felt that we were being observed. There’s a pen for the tortoises on the floor that has not been properly cleaned in a long time, it was heartbreaking because one of the tortoises was trying to escape the pen and grabbing at people as they walked by. There’s also a huge snapping turtle in a disgusting tank that is way too small for him!!! It was scrapping at the glass to the point that you know this animal is unhappy and trying to break his enclosure. Whole place needs to be reported. A lot of the cages did not have pricing, and more than one seemed to have a deformation of some sort.

Went in just to accompany a friend buying stuff for their python, asked out of curiosity if they had any sand boas I could see as i was thinking about getting one, and ended up leaving with a new little friend :) I did not expect to come home with a snake that day but luckily they had everything i needed (and cool animals to look at while i was making my decision lol). It’s been about a month and he’s doing great! 🐍
