About
Aquatic Pets and Reptiles in Clovis, California is a sprawling independent shop that serves both aquarium hobbyists and reptile keepers under one roof. Walk in and you'll find rows of clean freshwater and saltwater fish tanks alongside terrariums housing bearded dragons, corn snakes, leopard geckos, spotted turtles, and more. The store stocks live plants, corals, and a variety of live feeder insects including roaches, making it a genuine one-stop destination for aquatic and reptile enthusiasts in the Central Valley.
Two staff members dominate the conversation in reviews: Brett and Roy. Brett is the go-to on the aquatic side, helping customers select freshwater plants for nano tanks, walking first-time fishkeepers through their initial setups, and even going "crab hunting" for customers with specific requests. Roy earns praise as the resident reptile authority, guiding new owners through bearded dragon and corn snake purchases with detailed care information, recommending proper habitats for spotted turtles, and advising on the best feeder insects for lizards.
Multiple reviewers mention leaving with a complete setup — tank, equipment, and livestock — after a single visit. The freshwater section includes bettas and a solid plant selection that reviewers describe as healthy and reasonably priced. The saltwater side carries corals and a variety of marine fish.
Prices generally get positive marks, though a few buyers have noted that comparison shopping is worthwhile for larger equipment purchases. It's worth noting that the store offers discounts for leaving reviews, which likely inflates its rating somewhat. A handful of customers have raised concerns about reptile enclosure conditions, particularly for leopard geckos.
These criticisms stand in contrast to the overwhelmingly positive aquatic-side feedback, where tank cleanliness and fish health are consistently praised. For Clovis and greater Fresno area fishkeepers, Aquatic Pets and Reptiles offers the kind of hands-on guidance and curated selection that big-box pet stores simply cannot match. The staff's willingness to spend time educating customers — especially newcomers setting up their first betta tank or freshwater aquarium — is what keeps people driving back.

“Poor animals! They tell you to leave a good review for a discount. The reptiles are poorly taken care of :(”
— Annie Ingham1.038 minutes ago“** Oh and by the way, they pay everyone for the 5 star reviews. They gave us a discount for reviewing them as 5 stars and made us show them the review for the discount at purchase** First time snake owner, they got us setup with everything we needed to start our girl off with a great new home! Did find out later we did pay more for her setup than we should have by about $150 but that's on my husband for not shopping around first as everyone has different prices. I also did find a tick on our snake a few days after we brought her home. I initially though it was a scale defect until I saw the little red legs when I zoomed in on my camera. I reached out to the store and they weren't concerned at all and said we could pull it off with tweezers and dab the area with Neosporin and she would be ok.”

— nicole graham5.0a day ago“Not once did I get greeted or acknowledged when I came into this store. On top of that the reptiles are in horrible condition. They promote their store on Craigslist with false photos and misinformation. They claim certain pets are “easy to care for” to help get sales. No pets are easy to care for and require a lot of time and dedication. Seems like this store is more focused on making sales rather than properly caring for the animals they have. They are also very defensive. They responded to a negative review on here and brought up politics when nothing mentioned was about politics. I can tell this place is ran by someone very immature and who lacks proper pet care knowledge.”
— AV1.0a day ago“Terrible customer service, read their responses to reviews. No wonder they are attempting to run a pet store, they clearly aren’t professional enough to run anything else. Good luck boys! You need it!”
— Kris G1.04 days ago“They take horrible care of their reptiles here and get extremely defensive when anything is calmly pointed out to them. They are rude and do not care about customer concerns at all.”
