About

Tucked along Bothell-Everett Highway in Mill Creek, WA, Moonlight Aquatics is the kind of small, tightly curated aquarium store that freshwater hobbyists across the greater Seattle area plan a drive around. Owner Chang and his staff — names like Winter, Devin, and Chay turn up again and again in reviews — have earned a reputation for stocking unusual species you simply won't find at a big-box pet store, and customers regularly walk out with fish they'd been hunting for everywhere else. The real draw is the rare and hard-to-find livestock.

Recent visitors have picked up apistogrammas, hypancistrus plecos, and CW111 'Vulcan' Corydoras, alongside cardinal tetras and coral red pencilfish — exactly the sort of rare freshwater fish for sale in Mill Creek, WA that keep enthusiasts coming back. 99, and the tanks stay full of rainbow shrimp, blueberry snails, crabs, and other invertebrates available in Mill Creek for planted and nano setups. A resident arowana commands its own tank, and the live aquatic plant selection regularly overflows the shelves.

It isn't only livestock. Moonlight carries a wide range of driftwood and rocks at prices reviewers say often run half what other stores charge, plus dry goods and Aquarium Co-Op gear for everything from a 5-gallon to a 200-gallon build. Need a replacement heater on short notice?

Customers say Chang sorted them out in no time. The team is known for patient, no-pressure advice — helping newcomers cycle a first tank, troubleshooting fungal and bacterial issues, and now and then sending someone home with a free plant or fish. If you're hunting for rare freshwater fish, shrimp, and plants near me in the Puget Sound region, Moonlight Aquatics is a genuine local favorite: clean tanks, healthy fish, fair prices, and a deep bench of knowledge behind the counter.

  • “Is there a reason why they keep the dead fishes in the tank? Also the labels are all mixed up it was really hard to know which one is which”

  • “Today was the third time I’ve been to Moonlight. The first experience about a year ago was excellent. The last 2 visits over the last 2 months have been anything but. The employees don’t seem to care. They like to sit behind the counter and read books and don’t ask if you need help or have questions. The fish and tanks have been obviously neglected. Most have significant black hair algae growth. Many tanks had many dead fishes on the bottom. Lots of skinny fish with sunken bellies. They do get some unique and cool fishes, which is why we go there, but the conditions are sad to see.”
