About
Red's Aquarium & Pet Supply has become the heartbeat of Bellingham's freshwater fishkeeping community — a small, woman-owned shop tucked into a historic building that consistently punches above its footprint. Regulars come for a rotating inventory of healthy freshwater fish for sale in Bellingham, WA, alongside shrimp, snails, and one of the most impressive live plant selections in the region, often priced well below the competition. Driftwood and hardscape round out a genuine one-stop aquascaping destination, and the aquatic plant "grab bags" get singled out again and again as the cheapest way to fill a tank with greenery.
What sets this fish store apart starts behind the scenes: every fish is quarantined before it reaches the sales floor, so customers can confidently add new stock the same day. The team will special-order species hobbyists won't find on the usual rack — black angelfish being one example — and the axolotl display tank near the front is a reliable crowd-pleaser. Shoppers rave about the healthy tetras, loaches, and assassin snails available in Bellingham, WA, plus a steady supply of feeder crickets.
The staff is the store's greatest asset. Reviewers single out Diedra for troubleshooting tank-chemistry problems in person, by phone, and over email; Marv for thorough, patient husbandry explanations; and Spencer for confident help with equipment upgrades. Free water testing comes standard, and no question is ever treated as a silly one.
Ask for a specific additive like Fritz and they'll point you to a solution even when it's out of stock. Red's also stocks pond supplies and a well-curated lineup of premium dog and cat food, including specialty diets. But the real magic is community: the shop hosts local fish swaps, connects newcomers to Bellingham fishkeeping groups, and has even boarded customers' fish free of charge during a household emergency.
For anyone building a planted tank or stocking a freshwater community near Bellingham, WA, Red's is the local shop that earns the loyalty — hobbyists routinely drive 40 minutes or more just to walk through the door.

“Called in for Fritz turbo start. They were out but the employee on the phone offered an even better solution. Knowledgeable polite staff.”
— Troy C5.05 days ago“I cannot thank Red's Aquarium & Pet Supply enough for their unending support during my 5 years of fish keeping here in Bellingham, and now through my emergency relocation to TX. My beloved and very beautiful Tiger Oscar needs to be re-homed, and Red's gladly accepted him in hopes of finding a new home. This local, woman-owned store is a gem for Bellingham. The owner is incredibly competent, fair, kind, patient, and everything you can imagine that makes locally owned businesses a benefit to us all. When I return to Bellingham someday Red's better still be here! If you've not visited Red's yet, go and visit this wonderful place in a historic building and tell them Marc sent you.”
— Marc Wetzel5.0a week ago“I’m new to the planted aquarium hobby, and Reds has been so helpful in getting me started! They can get busy, but the staff always take their time to answer any questions, and never make me feel rushed. It’s a small store, but great for aquarium and pet basics.”

— circuit-maker5.03 months ago“Never had a problem here, love my tetras and loaches. Staff has always been helpful, knowledgeable, and courteous. At first I didn't think they particularly stood out; they were a locally owned business that was better than a box store in my mind. Today, I was checking their Sunday hours and I looked at the one star reviews out of curiosity. Someone actually gave a one star (implicitly) over the pride flags, calling it a political agenda. Now, normally I don't trust rainbow capitalism. Three quarters of the time, it's just a cheap economic ploy. But what does the owner do? Puts her (pronouns?) money where her mouth is, calls out the reviewer for their implicit bigotry and tells them not to come back. I'll see y'all later this morning for my feeder crickets. Might even snag a couple assassin snails too, just for the extra business. 🥹🩷🤍💙 PS: Also want to put in a plug for the aquatic plant "grab bags." Variety and quantity for a bargain, the best way to fill up your aquarium with greenery!”

— Quilla Bishop5.04 months ago“Came to Reds with a long list of aquarium questions, all of which were answered amazingly. Marv and Deirdra were wonderful and incredibly helpful. Will definitely be coming here again for more aquarium needs!”
