The Pet Advantage in South Burlington, Vermont is a family-owned pet store that casts a wide net — dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, rabbits, and a fish department that has earned genuine admiration from aquarium hobbyists passing through. " That same customer praised the owner for personally running to the back room and returning minutes later with exactly the right item at a price that beat expectations. S.
after being denied re-entry with a fish purchased online, called The Pet Advantage in desperation. Staff cleared one of their larger tanks to house the fish and held it for weeks while the owner sorted out import paperwork — a level of accommodation that speaks to genuine care for the hobby. The customer returned to find the fish healthy and well-maintained, and noted the clean tanks throughout the store.
Beyond freshwater fish, The Pet Advantage stocks a diverse array of feeder insects, arthropods, and used enclosures at discounted prices — a real draw for keepers of exotic reptiles and invertebrates. One reviewer raved about finding Madagascar hissing cockroaches in excellent health at fair prices, while another appreciated the range of feeder bugs available locally in Vermont. The store does carry controversy.
Several reviews raise serious concerns about the health of rabbits sold here, with multiple customers reporting respiratory infections in bunnies purchased from the store. Prospective small animal buyers should be aware of these accounts. For South Burlington aquarists, the knowledgeable staff and well-maintained fish section make this worth a visit.
The pickup service adds convenience, and the owner's hands-on involvement gives the store a personal touch that chain retailers simply cannot replicate.

SHOPPERS BEWARE! A serious case of negligence in this store towards the live animals they have in their care/for sale. I will be making a report of what I saw when I was in this store to those who should be aware of the animal abuse taking place here. Less not the terrible customer service this store has to offer. If you purchase an item here and intend to return it, don't. save your self the hassle and the verbal abuse that you will receive from the employees lashing out as well as management. Places like this should be better run to better care for the local pet and animal community and welfare. If you have even one braincell left you will spend your money else where. Honestly you could do a 2 minute YouTube search to learn more about your pet than coming to this store will provide. Bob I think his name is, who thinks he is the encyclopedia of anything pets, is wrong is every instance he opens his mouth. Vial, that's the rating i give this place.

They do not follow standard practice of selling animals. They sold a sick bunny to someone very close to me. They were well aware of the bunny having potential health issues but cleared it “fine by the owner and that he just makes funny noises”. If you have any knowledge of bunnies they do not make any noises at all. It’s abnormal for them to and means that they are either under severe stress or have a health issue. He had a respiratory infection that should have been checked out properly by a vet and given medicine at that time. By the time the bunny was brought home, they were taken to the vet right away and was told that he had an upper respiratory infection. He started having seizures as well from not breathing. Several doctors visits later and nothing was clearing it. After an X-ray they found out the bunnies lungs were filled with abscess's. He was far too gone. They said that by the time he was bought it was far too long. He should have been properly checked by a Vet immediately when Pet Advantage had noticed something odd with him. He had to be put down today because of this. It was the only humane option because they were told he wouldn’t live much longer. Pet Advantage, I hope you decide to take care of your animals properly before profiting off of sick animals and making them someone else’s problem.

they sell sick bunnies and pretend they’re unaware of their illness. Beware of buying animals from this buiness. You will end up spending more on vet bills than the actual animal itself. It’s so sad they continue to breed and sell sick bunnies😞we were told “the boss thought the bunny had a respiratory infection but decided it didn’t” but he was clearly unhealthy and could not breathe properly but once again we were lied to and told “we’ve never heard a bunny make these noises before, he’s special!” we brought him to the vet a couple of days after since we were concerned about his health and we were told he had a chronic respiratory illness. Owners are sick for supporting unethical breeding. Bunny was most likely born sick 😓😖. their stuff is also over priced. You’re better off going to petco or petsmart then going to a trash local buiness like this one. Expect sick untreated animals and expensive prices.

Super nice mangement very helpful! Unfortunately one really rude girl working up front 😢. Went in to get a mouse for my partners snake and she gave me the most obvious disgusted face and tried to tell me we aren’t feeding the snake properly. I would have had no problem being nicely informed on how to feed the snake better or different food but she was so rude it made me not want to come back. Been coming here for years never had an issue until today. Management was very nice and apologized.

My new all time favorite pet store. I’m from out of town and needed a place to get feeder insects and I was nervous they wouldn’t have any, but hey they have the most diverse array of feeder bugs I’ve found in a local pet store and the staff are SO helpful, they really know what they’re talking about. Every single time I come in I leave with exactly what I need and something even better than I could’ve expected. The owner is a doll he has been so helpful, I say what I’m looking for and he’s like “give me five minutes” runs to the back and finds EXACTLY what I need and gives me an unbeatable price. Also one of the only pet stores I’ve been to that sells discounted used enclosures!!! I got a plastic terrarium for my mantis that just needed a little TLC for a quarter of the brand new price. For someone who buys everything used that is so huge. The animals are so healthy and active and they have one of the most impressive selections of fish I’ve ever seen. I recommend this spot to anybody who will listen HAHA ultimate one stop shop for anyone with exotics. LOVE the selection of arthropods!!!
