About AquaZoo

Tucked into the El Dorado Shopping Center in Webster, Texas, AquaZoo is a compact, densely stocked aquarium shop that has earned a devoted following across the Clear Lake area and beyond — some customers drive from as far as Galveston to shop here. Owned and operated by Shannon and Prosper, this mom-and-pop store thrives on personal relationships and hands-on guidance that chain retailers simply can't replicate. The fish selection punches well above the store's modest square footage.

Reviewers consistently note healthy, vibrant stock that includes rare freshwater species you won't find at big-box competitors, eye-catching bettas, and pond-suitable fish for outdoor setups. Live plants and driftwood round out the livestock offerings, giving planted-tank enthusiasts plenty to browse. On the equipment side, AquaZoo carries an impressive Fluval inventory alongside specialty supplies that keep serious hobbyists coming back.

What sets AquaZoo apart is the level of care built into every transaction. Staff members like Patrick take the time to walk newcomers through their options, and the owners actively encourage customers to bring in water samples for testing before adding new fish — a practice that speaks volumes about their commitment to animal welfare. Shannon and Prosper will advise on compatible tank mates, troubleshoot water chemistry, and share practical tips refined over years of fishkeeping experience.

One long-time customer noted learning "something new every time" they visit. The store does get busy, particularly on weekends, so weekday visits offer a more relaxed, hands-on experience. While you wait, the tanks themselves are worth studying — a living catalog of what's possible when fish are sourced and maintained with genuine expertise.

Prices are generally reasonable, though some specialty fish carry premium tags that reflect their rarity and health. For aquarium hobbyists in the Webster and Clear Lake area, AquaZoo delivers the kind of personalized, knowledge-driven experience that builds lasting fishkeeping success — one water test and careful fish selection at a time.

I am writing to offer some constructive feedback. I have visited the store twice over the past three months. During my first visit, I felt the environment was somewhat unwelcoming, but I didn’t think much of it. I understand that small businesses can face staffing challenges, and I didn’t want to rush to judgment. Unfortunately, my second visit was significantly worse. I experienced consistently rude and condescending behavior from individuals I assume were owners as well as some staff members. I had intended to purchase several fish, but ultimately decided to limit my purchase to what had already been bagged and leave as quickly as possible. The fish selection and overall quality are good. That said, this is Houston, and there are many other options where customers are treated respectfully. For example, 360 carries comparable or even larger inventory without creating an uncomfortable experience, and online ordering is also an option. I genuinely wanted to give this store a fair chance, but I was very disappointed by the lack of care shown toward new customers or customers who may not fit their preferred profile. Ironically, after reading the lower rated reviews, it appears there is a clear pattern. Rather than responding defensively or passively aggressively when feedback is offered, it may be more productive to listen and ask what could have been improved during the experience.

This place gets busy as I had to stand around for minutes before they would help me. They have a great variety and beautiful fishes. Price are okay but some of them are expensive.

Mom and pop kind of place. Nice enough folks and a descent selection considering the small store thing. Knowledgeable as well, a good place to have in the neighborhood.

Was outside this place, waiting for a friend at medical clinic. Notice all the activity going in and out and people with jugs. Being a fake marine biologist. I figured it was a salt water pet shop. Totally a narrow place. But the floor traffic was amazing. Im really amazed how busy this place gets. Salt water fish is hard to maintain so these guys must be gurus gurus. Lots of vegetation. We had a power outage 2 winters ago. No heat for 2 weeks. Im sure the patrons banded around this place. Now that I know, im making it a must stop.

I could not resist to come again for more fish and plants. Once again I am very happy with the purchase. This is a lovely store with quality and rare fish. Patrick is a very friendly staff. He addressed my questions and helped choose some beautiful fish. I highly recommend this aquarium store!

It’s a cute little shop with a variety of fish but the woman that works there has a rude attitude. Everytime I go she’s pretty aggressive but when a white customer comes in her tone switches up. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but it’s been several times now. She makes it seem like asking for prices is such a chore. The price in the tank is different from what she says, I feel like she’s trying up charge me. Instead of helping me she was say “oh just come back later” but would help another customer from that same tank ! I loved the store but customer service is still important. It discourages you to see other races be treated better. It’s quite unfortunate because I drive over an hour to come take a look around.

I came here to look for small fishes for my outdoor pond to control mosquitoes larvae. I have zero experience in this matter and was blown away with price tags in the $30 range for one single little fish. A gentleman working there took his time showing me different choices and tips about raising them outdoors. I really appreciate his professionalism and honesty. If I decide to get into this arena in the future I definitely would revisit this establishment.
