Blue Lagoon Aquariums occupies a unique niche in Victoria, Texas, as what appears to be the only dedicated source for saltwater fish and corals in town. Run by Jaime, who reviewers describe as knowledgeable about the hobby, this small shop caters to both freshwater and saltwater enthusiasts — though the experience can be hit or miss depending on what you're looking for and when you show up. The store stocks corals and saltwater fish alongside a freshwater selection that includes some genuinely impressive betta fish, which at least one visitor found surprisingly noteworthy for a shop this size.
Customers consistently praise the health of the livestock, with multiple reviews noting that the fish available are among the healthiest they've encountered. The equipment carried is described as top quality, suggesting Jaime is selective about what he brings in. Beyond retail, Blue Lagoon offers tank setup and maintenance services in the Victoria area.
The setup work has drawn positive feedback, with at least one customer reporting a great experience having their aquarium installed. The maintenance side, however, has generated more mixed reactions — one detailed account describes a serious incident involving a water hose left running during a service visit, resulting in significant water bills and a contentious dispute over responsibility. The most persistent criticism centers on accessibility.
Multiple reviewers report difficulty reaching the shop by phone, unexpected closures during posted hours, and very limited operating hours overall. Jaime's approach to fish selection has also frustrated some customers who prefer to choose their own livestock or place specific orders. One reviewer waited over a month for fish that were supposedly already in stock.
For Victoria-area aquarists, Blue Lagoon fills an important gap as the local option for saltwater fish, corals, and quality aquarium equipment. The livestock quality is a genuine draw, but prospective customers should be prepared for irregular hours and a hands-on owner who runs things on his own terms.

Blue Lagoon was recommend by my aquarium builder for maintenance On ONLY the 3rd visit (12/31/25) they accidentally left a water hose running. Luckily the hose was left in the drain and did not leak into the house I received a call from the county on 1/7/26 that my house was using 55,000 GPH OF COURSE I WAS OUT OF TOWN I immediately called my plumber to go investigate Blue aquarium admitted the mistake after initially arguing with me When I suggested they provide 2 free tank cleanings to offset the $225 to the plumber and the $800 to the city (17,000 gals) they told me they’d pay the plumber (not the city) and wouldn’t service my tank any longer Not upset they won’t be in my house ever again Just glad this wasn’t worse now that I know they don’t stand behind their mistakes BUYER BEWARE! No professionalism NO INTEGRITY

The equipment is top quality and Jaime is very knowledgeable but he won't let you make fishes selections. He just brings whatever he wants to bring. I only asked him to order two specific fish for me. He told me he had ordered and received them and then put my off for over a month to come pick them up. When he finally agreed for me to come to the shop to pick them up, he only had one of the fish I asked for and he'd had the other fish for several months. Not a good business man!
