Texas Aquatics in North Richland Hills has built a loyal following among DFW-area fishkeepers, drawing customers from as far as Rockwall — over an hour away — for its deep freshwater selection and fair pricing. The store carries both fresh and saltwater fish, but freshwater is clearly the main draw, with reviewers consistently praising the variety and health of the livestock. Plecos are a particular standout.
Multiple customers call it the best pleco selection around, and the invertebrate offerings are strong too — golden mystery snails at just $3 each are a popular grab. Pea puffers have caught shoppers' attention, bettas arrive healthy and thriving, and guppies and other livebearers round out a solid community fish lineup. Live feeders are also available, which is increasingly hard to find at local shops.
The store stocks new and used tanks — one family scored a used setup for just $15 — along with all the essentials, decor, and in-house fish food. That affordability extends across the board; reviewers repeatedly note that prices undercut other aquatic stores in the area. A rewards card program sweetens the deal further, offering a $35 credit toward fish once filled.
Staff member Canton gets called out by name multiple times for patient, thorough guidance. He's helped complete beginners understand cycling and setup from scratch, and walked experienced hobbyists through snail care with equal attentiveness. That willingness to educate makes Texas Aquatics a genuinely welcoming place for families — several reviewers describe bringing kids who light up browsing the rows of tanks.
The store focuses exclusively on aquatics (no reptiles), which keeps the inventory tight and the attention where it belongs. Live plants are part of the offering, and the overall experience is more specialty fish shop than big-box pet aisle. For freshwater hobbyists across the North Richland Hills area, Texas Aquatics delivers healthy fish, honest prices, and staff who actually care about what goes in your tank.

The selection of fish is top tier here. The staff is very attentive to the customers. Make sure that you get a rewards card, because when you fill it up, you get a $35 credit toward fish. Most of my fish are from Texas Aquatics. Oh, they also have the best selection plecos.

My son has been fascinated by fish and begging for a fish tank. We found ourselves at Texas Aquatics and had a wonderful experience. They have so much to choose from! We bought a used tank for $15 and all the necessities to get us started. Canton was so friendly and talked us through how to get everything set up for our new fish friends. My husband and I have zero fish tank experience but we felt ready after Canton took his time explaining everything. The tank is so pretty and my boys are so happy!

Very dirty tanks. Ick on a lot of fish. 1 lady was nice but seemed to want to chat with coworkers more than help me. There are much better and cleaner places to go. Please clean your tanks and kill off the Ick.
