About
The Fish Bowl is one of the few dedicated aquarium stores in Lubbock, TX carrying both freshwater and saltwater livestock under one roof — a real resource for local reefers who would otherwise be stuck shopping big-box pet chains. Walk in and you will find marine fish and corals alongside freshwater stock, including reef frags that regulars mention picking up as healthy starter acropora, plus oddball saltwater personalities like the resident porcupine puffer that staff have been known to feed for curious visitors. The freshwater side has its own following: shoppers single out the higher-grade fire red cherry shrimp, along with bettas and figure 8 puffers for sale in Lubbock that are hard to find elsewhere in town.
What recent visitors keep coming back for is the water. The shop sells premixed, ready-to-use reef water at a fair price, and nano-reef keepers say it has noticeably improved their corals while sparing them the hassle of running RO/DI filters at home. They also keep the practical gear stocked — water additives, filtration parts, and the Tidal freshwater filters that longtime customers run with great success.
Staff like Preston and Edward set the tone. Visitors describe knowledgeable, welcoming help that answers tank questions without upselling; one family stopped in for a single small fish, got genuine advice on their setup at home, and left planning to come back for more. The space itself is small and well laid out, with a moderate, rotating selection and a friendly guard dog named Fiona greeting shoppers.
This is an in-person, walk-in shop best enjoyed with a little patience: the selection is curated rather than huge, and hours can run irregular, so it is worth a quick call before you make the drive. For Lubbock hobbyists after live coral, reef supplies, quality premixed water, and specialty freshwater fish available in Lubbock, TX, The Fish Bowl fills a genuine gap.

— MAKS Tech Solutions4.0a week ago“It's fairly small but it has a lot of things for fish like water addetives and filtration related items.”
— Rue Sakirkin4.02 weeks ago“Knowledgeable and welcoming staff with a moderate selection.”
— Chris Bottoms5.0a month ago“My family visited today and bought a little fish. We have wanted to stop in multiple times and finally did today. I am glad we did. They were knowledgeable and helpful answering questions we had about our own tank at home. We will be back to get a few more fish soon.”
— Paige Chavez5.0a month ago“Very nice and helpful and great fish! Will continue to get stuff through them.”
— Corey Graham5.02 months ago“Lubbock is so lucky to have such quality pre-made water For nano reefs it saves 80% of your prep headache to have the best quality water in reefing for sale and at a very fine price. For comparison, look up five gallons of petsmart water. That's 30$ for water that will slowly degrade your tank compared to this water at ten that will grow it better than any brand available, and you're not having to manage/ upkeep r.o. d.i. filters either, this is clean strong water. Great business. My corals are the best they've been due to this quality water!”
— brandon4295.03 months ago“Love the staff. My husband and I (mostly my husband) frequently visit to check out the new fish and corals. We will continue to support them. ❤️”
— Kat Rush5.0a day ago“Best place in Lubbock to get a fish”
— Jacob Key5.02 days ago“We live in Midland. There's only petco and one saltwater shop in odessa. We have bought fish by all three locations. All the fish we bought at the 2 locations in odessa are alive. More than half the fish we bought at The Fish Bowl have all died. Water perimeter are great. All the other fish are thriving.”
