About
Betta Squad USA is a Houston, TX betta specialist run by the Pham family, and it has earned a loyal following among freshwater hobbyists hunting for show-quality bettas you simply won't find in the cup-bound rows of a big-box pet store. This is a dedicated breeding operation, and the fish reflect that care: reviewers consistently describe their bettas settling into new tanks active, curious, and ready to eat, with none of the fin-clamping or lethargy that mass-bred stock so often shows. The lineup leans into vivid, collectible varieties.
You'll find Halfmoon, Plakat, and Dumbo bettas for sale in Houston, TX, including standouts like a Black Base Galaxy/Candy Koi Halfmoon, platinum Dumbo pairs, exotic whites that read faintly pink in certain light, and mustard-gas and red-copper patterning. Customers love being able to choose the exact individual fish they want instead of gambling on whatever a chain happens to stock, and many call the prices genuinely fair for the quality and health on offer. What keeps people coming back is personality.
One new betta keeper described a fish so confident from day one that it built a bubble nest within days and treats the gentle tank outflow like a water slide; another named his George and called him happy and healthy. The Phams are widely praised for being responsive and reassuring over text, walking nervous first-timers through acclimation and fish selection — one reviewer said that kind of assurance "really means the world" to a beginner. A few customers have flagged slow communication and an occasional hiccup, so it's worth confirming availability and details directly.
Even so, the repeat business — buyers on their third and fourth betta — speaks to a small, ethical breeder that Houston aquarists trust for healthy, vividly colored fish. For anyone in Houston, TX who wants an ethically bred betta with genuine character, this fish store is a standout source.

— Destiny Collins1.02 months ago“Purchased a Black Base Galaxy/Candy Koi Halfmoon. The betta was very well packed, being kept in a sealed bag inside of several layers of insulation and wrapped in paper. He seems healthy, and after a 30 minute acclimation process of floating the bag and slowly adding my tank water, he seems to show no signs of stress except figuring out his way around his new tank, which is normal. Only a few hours later, he seems completely stress free. Thank you for supplying such a gorgeous fish!”
— Nicholas Cooper5.03 months ago“I can't recommend the Betta Squad enough! My fish arrived in excellent health and spirits. He was delivered ahead of schedule and packaged with care. Even fresh out the box he was unphased... no fin clamping or lethargy. From day one he has been energetic and confident. There was no awkward shy phase. I can only imagine he was raised with love! I've attached a video, some photos as well as a product photo so you can see how accurate the representation was. Also, when I had a concern they were responsive via text and eased my worries. As a new betta keeper, this type of assurance really means the world. This fish has added a lot of joy to my life... I love watching him explore his tank and find things to amuse himself. He's scouted every inch, and one of his favorite things is to treat the gentle outtake flow as a water slide... he torpedoes into it then relaxes and let's it carry him a couple inches then goes back for another round! So funny! Ahh and on the first morning, he got excited when seeing me wake up and went over to the side near my bed examining me. I gave him his first few nibbles of food then he did this amazing happy dance. I was delighted... ahh and he already made a bubble nest, so I'm assuming he's enjoying his new space.”
— Nia Rankin5.03 months ago“Would not order or re-order from these guys!! I ordered a Betta fish from them I even paid for expedient delivery. Fish arrived dead in 47° water. I called, they acted like this was a normal part of the transaction. They sell fish, but I don’t think they really care about them. They said they would refund me, but They never refunded me. I had to go to my credit card to dispute it and now they’re disputing my claim. The purchase was all the way back before December 23rd 2025. The dispute says “the package arrived in good condition” It wasn’t a package. It was a living creature you sell them. They’re called Betta fish. Second off, I wouldn’t consider dead to be “good condition” I feel like they were trying to sneak that dispute through hoping I won’t jump through hoops over $66 but I’ll tell you what, I’ll die on this hill because it’s a fact of the matter.”

— Scott Kennon5.0Edited 4 months ago“Great experience buying a male plakat betta! Had him for about 2 weeks now, and he's incredibly healthy with beautiful colors (I honestly hope he doesn't marble away his current coloration!). He's got tons of personality too: super active, curious, sassy, and kinda stupid (in a cute way). Picking the exact betta I wanted and ordering online was a very smooth and easy process. I think the prices are super fair for such beautiful and well cared for fish. Pet store bettas are so abused and overbred these days, so it can be hard to find healthy, well-bred bettas for such a reasonable price these days, especially within the USA. Let's support small, ethical breeders, not big box pet stores! Shipping was super fast, and the fish was packaged very well (heat pack, foam insulation, live fish label, etc). Just a heads up to anyone who may be purchasing, USPS will sometimes give you the wrong expected arrival date. I got the notification my betta was shipped along with a tracking number on a Friday. USPS said it wouldn't arrive until the next Wednesday, which made me really nervous. I planned to contact someone about it Saturday morning, but my fish arrived happy and healthy Saturday morning! Just want to note this to prevent anyone getting spooked if USPS gives you a crazy arrival date. Thanks so much to the Phams for a great experience, and I would highly recommend Betta Squad USA to anyone hoping to bring home a new fishy friend :)”
— Katherine Li5.02 weeks ago“Never buy from them. I order fish on 1/8 and not getting fish until 1/20. USPS picked up on 1/14. Not delivering until 1/20. That is outrageous???”
— KEITH MACFARLAND1.03 weeks ago“Shipping was a nightmare. Got two different tracking numbers one tracking number was delivered to a different state and other one said waiting for item for like 2 weeks and when it finally updated and the fish was delivered.. It was the wrong fish. The seller was terrible at communicating by text and did not respond unless I texted several times over several days. The only good thing I can say was the fish was well packed and hes healthy so far and the seller also sent some plants with the fish.”
— Macie Puckett1.03 weeks ago“Ordered a pair of platinum dumbo bettas. They were really helpful with selecting the best and healthiest bettas they had in stock. There was a few hiccups but they were really thorough on the situation. Recieved my fish in great health. Only after conditioning them a few days, I was able to breed them.”
