About
Tucked into Duncanville, Pet Village is a neighborhood institution that has served the DFW metroplex for decades, and while it does plenty as a general pet shop, it's the dedicated fish room that pulls aquarium hobbyists in from across the area. Walk past the resident parrot, who may say hello, and the sleepy store cat, and you reach an entire room lined with freshwater and saltwater tanks. Regulars keep coming back for the variety and the prices: one recent visitor walked out with two black kuhli loaches and a yo-yo loach, calling the fish "great and in great health," and noting a selection that runs from aquatics and koi to all sorts of other animals.
That value is the store's signature. Hobbyists have scored 20 shrimp for $5, and the tetra tanks turn up uncommon finds like Bucktooth Tetras (Exodon paradoxus) for sale in Duncanville, TX at prices that undercut what the same aggressive species fetches elsewhere. If you keep bettas, freshwater community fish, or koi, or just want to browse a saltwater section without driving to a big chain, this aquarium store is a genuine local option.
Shoppers consistently describe the back tanks as clean and the fish as healthy, a point that comes up review after review. What makes the trip worthwhile is the people behind the counter. The owner is widely described as an OG in animal care and breeding, and staff get repeated praise for being knowledgeable and quick to help, happy to talk shop the moment you start asking real questions.
Prices across livestock and dry goods, from tanks and supplies to aquarium equipment for both salt and freshwater setups, run well below the big-box stores. It isn't warehouse-sized, but reviewers say they can usually find what they need. Pet Village also runs a long-loved grooming operation and stocks small animals and reptiles, so the aisles stay busy.
For DFW aquarium keepers, though, the draw is simple: affordable, healthy fish for sale near me, real variety, and an owner who clearly knows the hobby. Note the shop is closed Sundays, so plan your visit accordingly.

— Max Delgado5.02 months ago“I had a very frustrating experience here. I was charged for a teeth brushing service for my dog, but when I picked her up, it was obvious it was not done—her breath still smelled the same. When I called to ask about it, the employee I spoke. (The older Hispanic guy that works there) to was clearly stumbling over his words and trying to cover it up instead of being honest. I returned to get a refund, which I did receive, but the interaction in person made things worse. Instead of simply correcting the mistake, the employee became argumentative and started telling me what I should or shouldn’t say when requesting services. That is completely unprofessional—if a service is not performed.. You don’t tell me what the hell should come out of my mouth!!! Customers have every right to question it and ask for their money back. His behavior came across as very erratic and mentally unstable, and the situation was made far more dramatic than it needed to be. This could have been resolved quickly with honesty and accountability. Because of this experience, I will not be bringing my dog back here. I do not trust the quality of care or the way customers are treated. And another thing is this place has never asked for my dog’s shot records since 2023; that is concerning. So if y’all are not asking me for my dog’s, then you’re definitely not asking other customers!”

— Ryan Stiles5.03 months ago“This is our go to place! Just went back again today and got 2 black kuhli loaches and 1 yo yo loach. The fish they have are great and in great health. We've bought from them several times and will continue too. They're very knowledgeable and have a great selection of aquatics/ kois and hamsters, rats, tarantulas and the list goes on and on. They also do grooming. So check them out!”
— Brittany Ponce5.04 months ago“I don’t usually write reviews but I am extremely disappointed and honestly very upset with my experience at this grooming place. I took my dog in for a routine grooming, and when I picked him up, he was completely shaved down which I understand can be normal depending on the coat. However, what is NOT normal is that he had multiple cuts under his ears. When I brought it up, instead of taking proper accountability, they tried to justify it by saying he “couldn’t keep still.” That is not an excuse. Groomers are professionals who are trained to handle dogs safely. If a dog is moving too much, there are safe and appropriate ways to manage that situation. Cutting a dog and brushing it off as normal is unacceptable and completely unprofessional. What makes this even worse is how my dog reacted afterward. He was clearly in pain and emotionally distressed. He stayed hidden in my closet for days, which is not like him at all. He seemed traumatized. As a pet owner, seeing that broke my heart. I trusted this place with my dog’s safety, and they failed him. Please think twice before taking your dog here. I would never risk putting my pet through that experience again.”
