About
Tropical Fish Haven has been a fixture of the Corpus Christi aquarium scene for years, drawing hobbyists from across South Texas — and sometimes much farther. One customer drove three hours just for African cichlids; another visitor from Kansas City couldn't resist popping in to admire the clams and cichlids on display. The store stocks both freshwater and saltwater fish in considerable variety, along with live coral, sea anemones, and pond fish, making it one of the more comprehensive independent fish shops in the region.
The staff is a big part of what keeps people coming back. Julie is frequently mentioned by name as someone who patiently walks newcomers through the entire process — from establishing a 40-gallon breeder tank to advising on how to transport 33 fish across a multi-day drive. Kaleb and Sean have earned praise for their hands-on approach: Kaleb helping customers select sand and rock for new setups, and Sean arriving at homes with saltwater to assemble pumps and tanks on-site.
These aren't just sales interactions — they're ongoing relationships with hobbyists who rely on the store's expertise. The shop sells tanks and stands across a range of sizes, plus gravel, fish food, and general aquarium supplies. Their maintenance and setup services are a real draw, particularly for saltwater newcomers daunted by the complexity of a marine system.
Multiple reviewers note that prices tend to be lower than big-box pet stores, which is notable given the specialty stock. That said, the store's strict no-return policy is a recurring sticking point. A handful of customers have reported fish health issues, including ICH, so quarantining new arrivals is wise practice.
Cleanliness of the tanks generally gets high marks, though experiences have varied over the years. For Corpus Christi fish keepers looking for real selection and staff who genuinely love the hobby, Tropical Fish Haven remains a meaningful destination.

— Cody Covington5.03 weeks ago“I just want to start off saying the customer service here is outstanding!!! From the moment I walked in the door Kaleb greeted me and was so patient with me and answered all my questions. I purchased a 31 gallon tank and he picked out some sand and rocks. Then the next day Sean arrived at my home with salt water and put the pump and tank together and his service was spot on. So full of knowledge! I’m not sure who the owner is but kudos to them for having such amazing employees and service!! This is definitely going to be my go to place from here on out!!!”
