About
Pet Cove is a locally owned fish store in Kingsport, TN that has become the go-to aquarium stop for hobbyists across the Tri-Cities, with shoppers regularly driving in from Greeneville — and from an hour out — just to browse the tanks. The freshwater selection is the real draw, kept in famously clean, well-organized tanks that review after review calls spotless, the kind of detail that signals healthy livestock. Recently the shop relocated to a new spot that longtime customers describe as "so nice" and "unbelievably clean," well stocked with both fish and supplies.
If you're hunting for freshwater fish for sale in Kingsport, TN, this is where local keepers look first. The store has stocked ranchu goldfish, angelfish, bettas, gold-spotted plecos, and a rotating mix of shrimp and other invertebrates, alongside a genuinely good live plants section for anyone building a planted tank. One long-time customer reported buying fish and shrimp here over several years without a single loss — exactly the track record a freshwater enthusiast hopes to find near me rather than at a big-box chain.
What keeps people loyal is the staff. Brad in particular earns repeated shout-outs for taking real time to walk customers through tank setups, water care, and choosing the right fish for their system, and the owner is a frequent presence on the floor. Beyond the aquariums, Pet Cove is also a dependable local source for reptiles, birds, small mammals, and the live and frozen feeder mice and rats that keep snake keepers coming back weekly.
Prices reflect healthy, well-cared-for stock rather than rock-bottom chain pricing, and the five-day return policy on animals is worth knowing before you buy. But for clean tanks, genuine advice, and freshwater fish available in Kingsport, TN, Pet Cove remains the shop Tri-Cities aquarists keep recommending to each other.

Customer reviews
“I’ve purchased 4 Angelfish and about 8 other fish here. I have 2 Angelfish that are doing well and all the other fish lasted about a week . They don’t take care of their tanks and you will often see post it notes on their tanks that say no sale because of this. My tanks are perfect. I would stay away. The last angelfish I bought there died the next day because the girl didn’t provide enough water for transportation.”

— Dan Ratigan5.0a week ago“Came last week, it's our go to fish store but they must have had an off day. Waited around to buy some fish and no one came to help us like they usually do. Ended up leaving and will try to come back another day.”

— Hunter Dishner4.0Edited a month ago“Drove almost an hour yesterday, this was our go to store for fish needs, tanks are always clean, been going to this store almost 2 years. Have had several fish tanks over the years, a 75 gallon, a 30 gallon, and others so would not consider us to be novice at all. However, yesterday the young lady who finally waited on us after standing around for over 10 minutes was extremely rude, and unprofessional. Giving the third degree as to size, what type of tank, how often does the tank get cleaned... and went so far as to refuse to sell a beta to us and a rainbow shark. Told us she could not sell those to us " because she would not put those fish in our tank" im sorry but are you or are you not in the business of selling fish? Told us our tank needed to be cleaned once a week. REALLY, will that not stress the fish changing the water that often. This is,a tank thats been established for over 2 years.. with little issues.. Told us the only reason our other fish did not pick at our beta fish which by the way we had for over 6 months was because he was probably there before we put those into the tank. Which was not the case, he was last into the tank. She really needs to address her knowing all attitude, and her customer service skills. As we will most likely not return to this store”

— Vladimir Mosia5.02 months ago“This is everything you could hope for in a pet store. I had visited the previous location a couple of times, but hadn’t had the opportunity to visit the new location until a week ago. So nice. Unbelievably clean. Well stocked with supplies and pets. The staff I encountered were very friendly and were busy caring for the animals. The way the lady spoke to the finches as she moved them from one enclosure to another was so sweet, and made it clear she cared about the animals. I look forward to the day I can keep fish again just so I can make a purchase. In the meantime I’ll be sure to recommend others to check out what you have to offer.”
