Wick's Water World in Crossville, Tennessee is a family-owned pet store that casts a wide net — far beyond just fish. The shop stocks a sprawling inventory of aquarium fish, birds (including parrots, cockatoos, and rose-breasted galahs), reptiles like snakes, ferrets, chinchillas, and turtles, along with supplies and equipment for freshwater tanks and other pets. It's the kind of place where you can walk in for glofish or cichlids and walk out having spent an hour browsing through room after room of animals.
The store is run by Ms. Wick, who has a loyal following among Crossville pet owners. Regular customers describe her as warm and personable, someone who takes time to help people select the right fish and equipment for their setup.
The older gentleman who also works the floor draws consistent praise for his patience and willingness to answer questions. For a rural Tennessee community without easy access to big-box pet retailers, Wick's fills a real gap — offering freshwater fish including cichlids and glofish, along with aquarium gear at prices many locals find competitive. That said, the store is polarizing.
A significant number of reviewers raise concerns about cleanliness, ventilation, and the condition of animals — particularly in the bird room, where some parrots show signs of stress. Multiple customers have also reported fish dying shortly after purchase, with mixed experiences when seeking replacements or refunds. The lack of price tags and labels on animals is another recurring frustration.
For Crossville residents looking for freshwater fish, aquarium equipment, or an eclectic selection of exotic animals without driving an hour to bigger cities, Wick's Water World remains the primary local option. The selection is genuinely impressive for a store of its size, and the personal touch of a family-run shop comes through in many interactions. Prospective buyers should inspect animals carefully and come prepared with questions about health and return policies.

Definitely would NOT recommend this establishment to anyone when he first opened the door your hit was such a stench that you don’t even wanna walk in. Very dirty and tight to walk around. Tanks look nasty and the bird area was the worst with the smell. I happen to go in to buy fish for my toddler and autistic son. I wish I hadn’t Waste of money. I bought four glow fish yesterday brought them home set them up in a tank and by this morning, they were all dead called the establishment and she’s like yeah I remember who you are and it’s not my fault that they all died. You probably didn’t set up your tank right. I’ve had a tank since childhood so I’m pretty sure I know how to set up a tank. She goes on to say she can’t help me and I’m like you don’t have a seven day policy or something. I mean I spent $35 on four little fish and she’s like no I can’t do that. Wow, I’ve never had terrible service like this from a PetSmart or Petco should’ve just drove the extra hour for them instead. If I could give this review zero stars, that’s what they would get. Very rude owner or whoever is working the front.

Yes, they have bird stuff. But it's old and covered in dust and spiders! This place needs a deep clean....or a condemnation.

How this business has 4 stars blows my mind. I know folks are nostalgic as I once was for the place but it needs to be shut down. The gross neglect of all animals in the store is atrocious. Products are over priced and some of the bird stuff looks like it's been there since I was a kid going to the store. I made the mistake of going into the bird room. All of them have next to absolutely no enrichment. Those parrots will never sell with the high price and obvious behavioral/health issues they present which I can't help but feel sorry for. It's not their fault they are in too small of a cage with improper food, one perch, one toy in some cages. Some have already began to feather pluck from the stress. How can you look at a bird in that state and say this is a good business? I seen an Amazon parrot in way too small a cage, perch in the floor, screaming their poor head off shaking in rage because they are neglected. That's something that will haunt me for walking away. Most folks would think that's just how birds are, loud. Yes they are but they dont scream their head off and shake from terror and rage. If you've ever loved a parrot, you would be heart broken at the sight. Stop selling birds if you're not going to invest in giving them even their most basic needs!

Such a cool place. Everything and anything you'd ever need for any pet you have! Only negative I have is a lack of labels on animals and lack of pricing on things.

Walked in here the other day and she wanted 8500 for a rose gala bird. These animals do not look well taken care of if you look at their water containers and she has snakes that are way too big for their environment that they are kept in. No one is going to want to buy a big snake like that not knowing how old it is and with it not being taken care of appropriately. The birds have build up on their feet and their houses are not clean. Everything is overpriced here and you can get it at 10 20 $30 cheaper if not more from other pet stores. I don't recommend this place only because I don't think it's fair for these animals to live in these kind of environments also the smell is horrid and all the owner says is it's a pet store it's going to smell bad but I've been in plenty of pet stores and this by far is the worst smell ever
