About

Wick's Water World is a family-owned fish store and all-around pet shop in Crossville, TN, run by Ms. Wick with help from an older gentleman who works the floor and earns steady praise for his patience. For a rural stretch of the Cumberland Plateau without easy access to big-box pet chains, it's the go-to local spot for freshwater fish for sale in Crossville, TN, packed into room after room of livestock, supplies, and exotic animals.

On the aquarium side, the shop is best known for cichlids and glofish, with feeder fish and a rotating mix of community freshwater stock. Regulars stop in for cichlids near me without having to drive an hour to a bigger city, and the fish room tends to be the cleanest, most organized part of the store — one recent visitor singled it out as the tidiest area they saw. Alongside the tanks you'll find aquarium equipment and supplies available in Crossville, TN, from filters and tank gear to fish food, which longtime customers describe as a surprisingly deep inventory for a store this size.

Ms. Wick has a loyal following; repeat customers call the staff helpful and knowledgeable, and several describe being treated like family. Pricing comes up a lot — because it's locally owned with no corporate overhead, some items run higher than the chains, though plenty of locals still find the value fair and the one-on-one attention worth it.

It's also an eclectic, polarizing place. Beyond the tanks you'll pass birds, reptiles, turtles, ferrets, and chinchillas, and some visitors note strong odors and raise concerns about the condition of animals in the bird room in particular. Smart shoppers inspect livestock closely before buying, ask about water parameters and any replacement policy up front, and come ready with questions about a fish's needs.

For Crossville aquarists who want freshwater fish, cichlids, and tank gear from a hands-on, walk-in local shop instead of a big chain, Wick's Water World remains the primary option in town.

  • “Don’t get me wrong. It’s a nice place but I feel like the animals aren’t cared for enough. The environment is certainly unhealthy and unsanitary in the bird room I understand birds can be dirty, but daily cleaning maintenance is necessary The room and area dedicated to the fish was most definitely the cleanest area I seen”

  • “Yea its pricy but this is also a locally owned store. No corporate overhead to run in a small city. They have a decent selection. I like them personally, they sell feeder fish and large exotic birds.”

  • “Definitely would NOT recommend this establishment to anyone when he first opened the door your hit was such a stench that you don’t even wanna walk in. Very dirty and tight to walk around. Tanks look nasty and the bird area was the worst with the smell. I happen to go in to buy fish for my toddler and autistic son. I wish I hadn’t Waste of money. I bought four glow fish yesterday brought them home set them up in a tank and by this morning, they were all dead called the establishment and she’s like yeah I remember who you are and it’s not my fault that they all died. You probably didn’t set up your tank right. I’ve had a tank since childhood so I’m pretty sure I know how to set up a tank. She goes on to say she can’t help me and I’m like you don’t have a seven day policy or something. I mean I spent $35 on four little fish and she’s like no I can’t do that. Wow, I’ve never had terrible service like this from a PetSmart or Petco should’ve just drove the extra hour for them instead. If I could give this review zero stars, that’s what they would get. Very rude owner or whoever is working the front.”

  • “Yes, they have bird stuff. But it's old and covered in dust and spiders! This place needs a deep clean....or a condemnation.”

  • “How this business has 4 stars blows my mind. I know folks are nostalgic as I once was for the place but it needs to be shut down. The gross neglect of all animals in the store is atrocious. Products are over priced and some of the bird stuff looks like it's been there since I was a kid going to the store. I made the mistake of going into the bird room. All of them have next to absolutely no enrichment. Those parrots will never sell with the high price and obvious behavioral/health issues they present which I can't help but feel sorry for. It's not their fault they are in too small of a cage with improper food, one perch, one toy in some cages. Some have already began to feather pluck from the stress. How can you look at a bird in that state and say this is a good business? I seen an Amazon parrot in way too small a cage, perch in the floor, screaming their poor head off shaking in rage because they are neglected. That's something that will haunt me for walking away. Most folks would think that's just how birds are, loud. Yes they are but they dont scream their head off and shake from terror and rage. If you've ever loved a parrot, you would be heart broken at the sight. Stop selling birds if you're not going to invest in giving them even their most basic needs!”
