About
Tignor Aquatics is a family-run freshwater fish store tucked into the basement and garage of a residential home in Blountville, TN — the kind of place you'd drive right past without GPS, which would be a genuine loss. Run by Ken and Beverly, who have spent their lives in the aquatics hobby, the shop has built a near-perfect reputation across the Blountville and Kingsport area on healthy livestock, fair prices, and patient, hands-on advice. The footprint is small, but the selection rivals stores many times its size.
Hobbyists drive in for the freshwater fish for sale in Blountville, TN, including cichlids and uncommon species that simply aren't stocked anywhere else in the region. The shrimp wall is a local destination in its own right — one regular calls it the best spot in the area for micro shrimp — and the live plants, from hardy stems to big Amazon swords, are described as second to none. You'll also find oversized snails, driftwood, koi, and the occasional oddity like an albino African clawed frog.
What keeps people coming back is the care. Ken and Beverly, along with Beth, who often works the counter, take real time to answer questions about tank ecosystems, steer you toward the right cleanup crew, or help a first-timer pick plants tough enough to survive a hungry goldfish. They'll take trades, they won't push gear you don't need, and several customers mention being sent here by local chain stores — a telling endorsement.
The tanks are spotless, with visitors noting they could barely spot a single dead fish in the whole place, and the fish and frogs people take home tend to keep thriving weeks later. Signage is minimal and the residential setting can be tricky to find, but the warm welcome, vibrant livestock, and deep expertise make Tignor Aquatics worth seeking out. For healthy freshwater fish, shrimp, and plants available in Blountville, TN, it's the local shop that turns first-time visitors into regulars.

Customer reviews
“We can't thank you enough for helping us find everything we needed for our first aquascape + fair fish heaven! The guy who helped us (I hate that I can't remember his name), was SO knowledgeable about all things plants and helped us pick out some beautiful plants that will hopefully withstand the goldfish vegetation aggression. We were impressed with, not only how friendly and knowledgeable you were, but how well taken care of all the fish you had were, even though there were SO many! Not to mention that the prices were unbeatable and sent us to PetSmart afterwards to return the ones we bought from them first. 😂 We can't wait to come back! 🐟❤️”

— Daniel Coates5.04 months ago“Me and my wife like coming to this place. They are always friendly and take trades also. We was there the other day and it took us an hour and half to get what we needed not because of Beth but because people was coming in and jumping line. They would start off by asking her a question and then they would weasel their way in front of everyone else. It’s aggravating. I never bother her when she’s waiting on someone else and I’d like the same in return. Good place to go”
— Larry Crumley5.04 months ago“Went to Tignors today for the first time. Loved it! Ken and Beverly are so very nice and very knowledgeable. Their fish are beautiful and healthy. It was so much fun. Can't wait to go back.”
