Critter Castle in Spartanburg, South Carolina is a family-owned reptile and exotic animal shop that has built a fiercely loyal following in the Boiling Springs and greater Spartanburg area. While this is primarily a reptile store rather than a fish shop, it deserves mention for its live invertebrate offerings — including isopods, dubia roaches, and tarantulas — alongside a robust selection of feeder insects and frozen/live feeder rodents. Owned and operated by Lisa and her partner, Critter Castle is the kind of place where the owners remember your name and follow up after a purchase.
One customer recounted buying a savannah monitor at a Repticon show from their booth, noting that the team took down contact information for wellness check-ins and held their animals long enough to ensure good health before selling. That level of care runs through everything they do. The shop stocks bearded dragons, ball pythons, corn snakes, leopard geckos, hermit crabs, and tarantulas, along with all the supplies needed to house and feed them.
Feeders are the bread and butter here — live crickets, super worms, meal worms, dubia roaches, and frozen and live mice ranging from pinkies to adult rats. Customers consistently note prices that undercut big-box competitors like Petco, with healthier feeder insects to boot. The staff breeds some of their own animals, including isopods, giving them firsthand expertise.
The store itself is small and unconventional — no flashy signage, limited browsing space, and a counter-service style where staff bring items to you. Some visitors find this off-putting, but regulars understand it as part of the shop's scrappy, no-frills charm. Weekly customers drive from as far as an hour away for reliable feeder stock and genuine conversation about animal care.
For reptile keepers in the Spartanburg area looking for fair prices, healthy animals, and owners who genuinely care about the creatures they sell, Critter Castle delivers consistently.

Found this place and what an awesome place for reptile supplies. We've had our oldest bearded dragon for 3 years, leopard gecko for 5 years and just this year added another bearded dragon and corn snake. I cant imagine going anywhere else for food for them. The lady and gentleman there are super friendly and actually care that your pet is happy and healthy.

I bought a savannah monitor from them at a Repticon! They took down my contact information so they could do check ins to make sure everything was going well. They took the time to answer the questions I had that day. When I called them later that week with more questions they were super helpful! Even though they were busy, they still took their time to answer my questions! I’ve unfortunately seen a lot of savannah monitors sold in sketchy situations, but this was one of the best situations I’ve ever seen a savannah monitor come from! They seem to genuinely care about the animals in their care and make an effort to ensure these guys go to the right homes. They held onto their savannah monitors long enough to make sure they were healthy first too. The little savannah monitor I bought has been the perfect one for me! It’s only been a week and the little guy already waddles up to me to snuggle in my hand and throws a fit when anyone else tries to hold him. I couldn’t imagine having gotten any other savannah monitor I saw at that reptile show. I’m 100% happy with the savannah monitor I got from them and I will absolutely be buying from their booth at the next Repticon I see them at!
