About
The Creature Room is Columbia's go-to reptile and exotic pet shop, a locally owned specialty store that pulls keepers from Augusta, Aiken, and Sumter — some happily making 40-minute to two-hour drives for animals and advice they can't find closer to home. If you've outgrown what the usual fish store in Columbia, SC stocks, this is where the Midlands' herp crowd ends up. The animals are the draw.
Reviewers describe spotless, well-lit enclosures and creatures that are visibly healthy and thriving. The rotating selection leans into ball pythons and ball python morphs (regulars have walked out with a banana ball python and a BP leopard enchi het clown), plus Red Tegus, veiled chameleons, Central American boas, baby savannah monitors, tortoises, and invertebrates like jumping spiders — exotic reptiles for sale in Columbia, SC that are genuinely hard to track down elsewhere. For feeders, it has become a lot of locals' favorite spot for feeder mice and live insects, priced noticeably below the big chains.
What customers rave about most is the staff. Cameron, Kristen, and Ayden get named again and again for patient, no-pressure guidance — Ayden recently stayed late to get a first-time keeper fully set up with a jumping spider, and the team talked another family through their new ball python, Banjo, when he wouldn't eat. Several note the store won't send an animal home until you've met a mandatory checklist of proper-care items, and that staff would rather steer you toward reusing gear you already own than upsell you.
They'll also special-order what's not in stock, like a Zoo Med tortoise enclosure, and keep you posted along the way. Add a clean, family-friendly space where kids are welcomed to look at the spiders, and it's easy to see why The Creature Room has earned such a loyal following in Columbia, SC. Bring your questions — the team clearly loves answering them.

— Kam Sims5.0a week ago“Ive been a few times and everyone is really nice and the animals are well taken care of. I believe the young man's name was Aiden (probably spelled wrong sorry) but he was AWESOME. He stayed a little late to go over some things with me and get me all set up with my little jumping spider. He was full of knowledge and nice as could possibly be. Highly recommend this place and grateful for you my dude!”
— Britt Wells5.03 weeks ago“Customer service is great”
— Johnnie omar Benjamin5.04 weeks ago“I bought a baby caiman from them, put it in my enclosed that day all the temps were perfect and it was dead the next day. Would not even give me a partial refund. They said it was basically not there problem after leaving the store”
— Joshua Bolen1.0a month ago“Very friendly and informative!”
— Thomas Marstin5.0a month ago“This store and the staff are absolutely awesome! Originally, my family and I had walked in to just explore around and see all the creatures. They keep a variety of healthy creatures in super clean tanks. Within minutes of being there it's evident they care deeply for their reptiles. The staff was so patient and educational, even showing my little ones the cool spiders. It was such an awesome experience that when we went back a year later, my family and I adopted our very first Ball Python. Again, the staff was absolutely so incredible and patient on educating us about our new boy that we felt very comfortable adding him to our family by the time we left. One thing we absolutely loved about this store is they have a mandatory checklist of items needed for their animals proper care before you can leave with them! Our Ball python, Banjo, is SO well adjusted and sweet. When we were concerned he wasn't eating his first two weeks, they knew exactly what to do and it worked immediately! The staff are not only knowledgeable and informative but they also provide the BEST customer service we've experienced ANYWHERE in Columbia in our 3 years of being here. I would recommend this store and it's staff to anyone and will be gladly making the 40 minute drive to continue business with them. Thank you guys for our Banjo!”

Cam is knowledgeable, very professional and genuinely passionate about the industry. Excellent customer service and even better husbandry are obvious when walking into the space. Very well kept space, clean, organized and also family friendly. Pricing is very fair as well.”
