About

Ocean Realms is a family-owned aquarium store tucked into Goose Creek, SC, and the kind of independent shop Lowcountry hobbyists will drive an hour or two to reach. Owner Lisa Trill and her crew — including Cody, whose name comes up again and again in recent reviews — treat every visit like a conversation rather than a transaction. They will test your water on the spot, talk you through a stubborn cycling problem, and steer you toward the right filter media instead of an unnecessary upsell.

One customer mid-move from a 30-gallon to a 40-gallon credited Cody with walking her through the whole switch, even helping her go from gravel to sand, then following up afterward to help save fish that were struggling. The livestock runs both freshwater and saltwater. On the freshwater side you will find bettas, pearl gouramis, corydoras panda catfish, clown loaches, kuhli loaches, GloFish, and axolotls, alongside a solid wall of live plants.

Saltwater keepers come for the reef tanks and coral frags, priced reasonably enough that reviewers call this their new go-to reef store. If a species is not in stock, Lisa will special-order it — this is one of the few shops around that tracked down a black ghost knife fish for a local keeper, and they will even take fish in trade when one outgrows your tank. Beyond livestock, the shelves carry the practical stuff: Seachem treatments, Aquarium Co-op filter sponges, substrate by the bag, foods, decor, and medications.

Prices get called the best in the Charleston Lowcountry again and again, which adds up when you are outfitting a full setup. If you are searching for healthy freshwater fish, corals, or aquarium supplies for sale in Goose Creek, SC, Ocean Realms pairs that selection with patient, honest guidance — the reason so many aquarists treat it as their local fish store near me and keep making the drive back.

Customer reviews

  • “So many unique options with knowledgeable staff”

  • “just wanted to share my experience about Lisa, the owner and Cody. Usually pretty shy so I normally don’t ask for help came in just kind of looking around Cody immediately asked me if I needed anything. Let him know that I was dealing with a big move and switching a 30 gallon to a 40 gallon. This would be my first time switching into a much bigger tank all in one day he told me absolutely everything I needed to know and Even switch me from gravel to sand, which I’ve been wanting to do, but Wasn’t sure about it. Lisa gave me fish bags for free to help with the move and was extremely kind. Cody even helped bring the 20 pound bags of sand out He mentioned That if I had any issues to contact their Facebook page. I unfortunately wasn’t aware about our water conditions and didn’t know we need to double the dose of the recommended water conditioner. Thankfully, I messaged him and he completely helped save My fish as they were actively dying. They are completely stable now, and he even gave me extra advice and education. This is a fish store that cares”

  • “The best aquarium shop experience we’ve had in the Charleston area. The gentleman that helped us was extremely knowledgeable and had a passion for the hobby. He gave us great tips for our tank and future tank. This will definitely be our new go to spot!”

  • “I have visited Ocean realms quite a few times, and they are also one of a few places that will take Fish in exchange that I’ve grown too large for my tank. Excellent customer service and the owner and staff are very knowledgeable and friendly.”

  • “Yea this store is a scam.Came in for the first time the other day just to look around found some kuhli loaches that were apart of the fish of the month thing.Store employee told me if I got the fish of the month membership then you get a free fish every month so that if I paid for it I would get a “free loach” but after adding everything up I found out I was charged full price for both loaches on top of the month membership. As other review has said there are lots of dead fish in the tanks (what really caught my eye was the dead betta in the female sorority tanks was getting ate by the bettas you would think with this being at the front of the store it would have been taken care of) and many of the fish look sick lucky after I got these loaches I put them in a quarantine tank less then a week both are dead.I would stay away from this store drive the extra 20 minutes to Tideline they have emplyees that actually care and healthy fish”

  • “If you actually know what you’re looking for and looking at, you’ll notice there’s ick in most of the tanks. Lots of dead fish floating in the tanks also. It’s like they don’t even care to scoop them out. And most of the fish are very overpriced. The Lady who works at the front counter was very rude and didn’t even acknowledge me when I first walked. When I had a problem with my payment method her mannerism was very rude. I decided to take my money elsewhere where. Wouldn’t shop here again.”

  • “So I came here once a few years ago. Still have most of the fish going strong * lost a few because of move not related to the stores care* fast forward a few years later I moved about 1hr 45 min away. Remembered I had a good experience and fish still going strong, made the drive to get some more fish. They took really good care of me, had a crazy amount of patience and knowledge. Gave me a great deal. Will absolutly take the almost 2 hour drive to come back for more fish when its time. Thank you!”

  • “First class in every respect. Eager to help the newbie and seasoned hobbyist alike. The superlative guidance comes from both academia and years of experience. One cannot find more enthusiastic patient and qualified customer care for the local aquarist than Lisa Trill and her crew.”
