Tucked away in Easley, South Carolina, Zac's Reef has built a devoted following that stretches well beyond the Upstate — some customers make two-hour round trips just to walk through the door. Run by Terry, Kristie, and Zac, this family-owned shop specializes in saltwater reef aquariums and carries an impressive coral selection that includes both SPS and LPS varieties, along with marine fish like clownfish and a range of shellfish. But the store isn't exclusively salt — there's a dedicated freshwater section with live plants, bettas, and other livestock.
What sets Zac's Reef apart is the level of hands-on guidance the owners provide. Multiple reviewers describe walking in as complete newcomers to saltwater aquariums and leaving with a full setup and the confidence to maintain it. The team doesn't just sell equipment — they'll come to your home to install the system, walk you through every step of the cycling process, and remain available for the endless stream of questions that come with keeping a reef tank alive.
Their motto, "the only dumb question is the one you don't ask," isn't just a slogan; it's how they operate daily. The coral inventory is the real draw. Reviewers who relocated from cities like Dallas say the selection surpasses what they had access to before, with high-end pieces at fair prices.
The shop also stocks dry goods and equipment, and they're the rare local store that will accept and barter used gear — a genuine lifeline for hobbyists looking to upgrade without the waste. Beyond the tanks, the atmosphere is warm and personal. Waffles, the resident Blue Heeler, greets visitors alongside the staff.
The store feels more like a community hub for reef enthusiasts than a retail operation. For anyone in the Greenville or greater Upstate area pursuing a saltwater or freshwater aquarium, Zac's Reef offers the rare combination of deep expertise, quality livestock, and genuine human connection that keeps people driving back week after week.

This business is a classic example of how a customer focused, values oriented business is supposed to be ran. My son and I have been Salt Water enthusiasts for years. After relocating from Dallas, we were sad about losing our primary store. Zac's reef far surpassed. I highly recommend. The coral selection is absolutely amazing.

This family owned business is the best. They can also get anything online for the same price but better customer service BUY LOCAL. Corals are high end and priced fair. He takes care of his customers. I buy everything from livestock to dry stock from them. They are the best store within 3 hours of Greenville and that’s saying a lot. Support them.

My kid and I came in just to look around and ended up leaving with a couple of plants and a betta. Owner was real nice and so were the other customers.

Alright place saltwater was great but freshwater was not very good there was a dead axolotl floating in the tank and guessing by how rotted it was it’s been there for a few days also the hedgehog setup was very poor hedgehogs can’t be kept together as adults and they had no wheel and improper bedding but if you are coming for salt water would recommend

I think this is the best reef/fish store you'll find. My husband and I came by here a few months ago to check it out. Left starting a small reef tank which is what my husband truly wanted anyways. The owners are so helpful and their wealth of knowledge on fish/tanks/reefs is unmatched. They are always welcoming and ready to help and answer all my crazy questions! (Trust me I ask it all 😅) We are excited to continue growing our tank larger and learn a long the way knowing we have Zacs Reef by our side to depend on! And Waffles is the icing on the cake when we visit!

Zac’s reef is THE place to go for all of your aquatic needs. Great people that will instantly welcome you and are enthusiastic about showing you around! As well as it’s the only store around that will accept and barter used equipment. I am very grateful to not have to go to the big name stores
