About
OSA Aquarium Superstore & Services in Coventry, Rhode Island is a large-format aquarium store that fills row after row of clean, well-organized tanks with both freshwater and saltwater livestock, backed by a deep wall of dry goods and equipment. It's the kind of place where you can browse African cichlids, discus, and pufferfish on one side, then cross over to reef corals on the other, all under one roof. The freshwater department is the heart of the store.
Cichlids — African cichlids especially — are a recurring highlight, and longtime hobbyists describe staff like James walking them through a full switch from discus to African cichlids, explaining water quality, diet, and compatibility instead of just ringing up a sale. That consultative streak shows up again and again: Fletcher patiently helped one couple set up their very first freshwater tank, and Alex earned praise for being knowledgeable and patient with newer fishkeepers. Recent visitors keep the same story going.
Sam and Emily helped one customer pick out minnows and live plants for sale in Coventry, RI, then walked her through introducing them and dialing in her tank's cycle. Shrimp keepers have a champion here too — one regular credits the crew (who happily call themselves "fish tank geeks") with correctly identifying a cyanobacteria outbreak from a plant sample and handing over a shrimp-safe, copper-free treatment that cleared the tank in days with no livestock lost. If you keep planted or shrimp tanks, that kind of advice is hard to find elsewhere.
The saltwater side draws reef hobbyists with a solid coral variety, though live rock and saltwater livestock selection runs smaller than the freshwater offerings. Pricing is a genuine talking point — some shoppers feel markups sit above market rate — but the trade-off many cite is healthy stock, well-kept tanks, and floor staff who actually know the hobby. For anyone hunting cichlids, freshwater fish, shrimp, or corals for sale near Coventry, OSA is a substantial aquarium store worth the drive.

— David M. Fisher5.03 months ago“Guy followed me around the store but cool selection of fish”
— Guillermo Castro3.03 months ago“Been going here as our go to for fish, shrimp, tanks, supplies and all in between, the staff is incredible, knowledgeable and as one put it "we're fish tank geeks" .... Thats awesome!! Been meaning to write a review and its long over due. Always happy with the knowledge and experience they love to share giving one example, I struggled with what everyone said was a black beard algae outbreak and all the products others tryed to sell or recommend were not shrimp save as it contains copper and other harmful ingredients to shrimp...... Which is what i relayed to the others, one member took a look at my plant sample and said thats a cyanobacterial situation and handed me a safe product to use and cleared the tank in a few days with no live stock loss. These guys are great and the store is busy for a reason, to me that says alot. So a big shout out to ALL of the staff at Coventry and Groton stores, nice to see folks with a passion for what they do and to serve the customers and not just make a buck selling. Thank you all and we'll see you all again.”

— JGROTONDO Rotondo5.03 weeks ago“A very nice store, very clean, well organized and generally a friendly staff except for a small select few. However, prices are extremely high and frankly a bit unaffordable. I've posted a couple pics for comparison, unfortunately I cant find another picture in my phone that I had taken from another local business. About 3 visits ago, I was treated with a very unprofessional and snobby attitude by one of the staff. I decided to just let it go and avoid that member the next time I visited for another purchase. That visit was perfectly pleasant! This past visit, I noticed the price on an item that I needed was unbelievably ridiculous and marked up atleast 100% more than anywhere else. That was very disappointing, and I had made my decision that I would never again step foot within that establishment.”

— Darryl (D416)5.02 months ago“A good variety of fish and accessories. Nice cichlid selection”
— Michael Hawley4.03 months ago“I used to really like this place, the prices are getting too high, but not just that. They’re starting to not care about there quality. Too many corals covered in bubble algae, aptasia, and red cyano algae. Plus there’s tanks that are broken that aren’t fixed. The owners never at this store anymore. And some of the workers just work they aren’t informed on really anything. Before everyone you talked to had knowledge of the hobby, now forget it…I asked one question about a product they were selling and the guy flat out said ummm yeah I don’t know. It’s just sad cause it was a very nice spot it’s just kind of being forgotten about.”
