About
Tucked into Bristol, Rhode Island, Little Rivers Aquatics is a compact freshwater shop run by Paul and Jacob that punches well above its size. The store may be small in footprint, but the care on display is immediately obvious — bettas are housed in proper 5-gallon tanks rather than the sad cups you'll find at chain stores, and reviewers consistently note that every tank is clean and every fish looks healthy. Cichlids are a clear strength here.
Multiple customers rave about the colorful selection, with one show-tank enthusiast specifically praising the quality of cichlid stock they received. Beyond cichlids, you'll find bristlenose plecos, bettas, and what reviewers describe as "unusual species" — the kind of interesting freshwater livestock that rewards a visit over a click. What truly defines Little Rivers Aquatics is the personal touch.
Paul is the kind of owner who will sit with a first-time fishkeeper, walk them through everything they need for a low-maintenance family tank, and make sure they leave with the right organisms for their setup. When one family brought their two children in after work, Paul and Jacob helped them build a beginner tank from scratch, turning it into an educational experience. That willingness to spend time — not just ring up a sale — is a recurring theme across nearly every review.
If they don't have a specific fish in stock, Paul and Jacob will order it for you. This custom-ordering capability means you're not limited to whatever's swimming in the tanks on a given day; they'll source specialty items and specific species on request. Several customers mention this as a major draw, especially compared to chain pet stores that can never seem to stock what you're actually looking for.
For freshwater fishkeepers in the Bristol area, Little Rivers Aquatics offers healthy livestock, honest guidance, and the kind of old-school shop experience where the owner knows your tank almost as well as you do.

Customer reviews
“The owner Paul is a lovely man. It is clear he is incredibly knowledgeable and caring about the fish and other creatures in the store, he will make sure each customer is buying the best and correct organisms for personal tanks. Great connections to community and the best place to go to get fish. He is patient with each customer, even those with beginner tanks and is willing to explain what each customer needs for their best tank. Best place to go to get fish in healthy conditions as well. Could not recommend more!”
— Olivia Siegel5.02 months ago“I went to this store and bought 1 male bushy nose pleco with blue eyes. Mind you I have had this one tank up and running for 5 years perfectly fine no disease. I added this fish (75 gallon tank tempered to the water and drip acclimated water was tested) I am ontop of my tanks because I run a buisness myself. I bought this pleco to pair with my female. And now half of my fish are dead… the owner will not respond and clearly is not taking acknowledgement for this. I suggest you take your buisness elsewhere. Like fish bowl in Fall River or Petco in north Dartmouth because this establishment is unreliable.”
