About
Wiscoy For Animals has anchored the State College, PA pet community for more than two decades, and the latest reviews show nothing has dimmed its devoted following. This is an independent, locally owned pet supply store built on genuine expertise rather than upselling. Owner Wanda is described again and again as a "local treasure" — Richard Ellers writes that she "has cared for Holly and me and our dogs for decades," and longtime customers credit her unmatched knowledge of canine nutrition, behavior, and health for keeping them loyal across generations of cats and dogs.
The shelves hold high-quality food, treats, toys, and gear for dogs, cats, small animals, and birds — much of it the curated, well-researched kind you won't find at a big-box chain. Bird seed and hummingbird feeders are available in State College, PA at prices reviewers say they can't beat anywhere else, and the shop recently started carrying playful new items like peanut-butter-and-jelly dog treats alongside its long-loved peanut butter ones. You'll also find creative gifts for sale here, from Polish pottery to a new batch of richly scented soaps and lotions made for the humans.
What sets Wiscoy apart is the consultative, no-pressure approach. Staff take time to listen, fit gear properly — like a correctly sized prong collar with hands-on training feedback — and recommend specific foods tailored to each animal rather than the priciest option. The close-knit team has a real "family" feel, and customers consistently describe the store as clean, organized, and welcoming.
It's also a genuine community hub. Well-behaved dogs are welcome inside (just ask first), dog ice cream and frozen yogurt are on hand, and seasonal events like ice cream socials and an Easter Biscuit Hunt draw regulars back year after year. A loyalty program — buy twelve bags of food, get one free — rewards the steady stream of neighbors who wouldn't shop anywhere else.

— Richard Ellers5.0Edited 3 weeks ago“Very friendly, really knows their stuff, kind to my human kids when they ask a ton of questions. I know whatever I choose will be of good quality for my pets. The store is always organized and clean”

— Stuart Nicoll5.04 weeks ago“For 20-22 years I have known Wanda simply through her knowledge, expertise, and high-quality products not found in big box chain stores. Her products are safe enough that when my children were little… They even enjoyed tiny peanut butter dog treats (literally like little diabetic cookies but for dogs and certainly safe enough for humans). My middle daughter recently turned 21 years old and we stopped in because she recently purchased a miniature long-haired dapple dachshund And they now carry PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY little treats!!!! And yes, I sampled🤭🩷 The array of products found at Wiscoy are not found at any other stores locally. It makes me feel like I am either in Shadyside in Pittsburgh or back in Naples in Florida- not just high-end, but very high-quality. And she currently got in some soaps and lotions for humans that smell like you want to eat them🙈❣️❣️They’re absolutely amazing and are calling me back🥰❣️❣️ The staff is a very close knit group ‘family’ feel that also share a very high-level knowledge of all products. I would recommend Wiscoy over and over again for all of your cat- dog- small animal- bird- etc needs🤲🏼🩵”
— Michelle FLACK- Webb5.04 weeks ago“My cats and I love Wiscoy! The people who work there are SO friendly and helpful. It is like a treat to go there. They always have the pet food I need, bird seed, and an assortment of creative gift items. And often a friendly cat from a local shelter looking to be adopted.”
— Julia Plummer5.0a month ago“Fantastic variety of pet and wildlife supplies! Employees were very helpful.”
— Amy5.0a month ago“Have gone to Wiscoy off and on for an item here and there for years, but I've recently begun bringing my dog regularly. Today, we attended our first ever Easter Biscuit Hunt at Wiscoy, and this will certainly be an annual tradition for me and my little dachshund now. It's well organized and structured in a way that works well for the dogs. They send people in a limited number at a time so it's not overwhelming inside, and they emphasize how to best make the "hunt" a worthwhile experience for your dog. My guy is often a nervous little fellow, but he loved it and was so confident and proud. At the end, we received a generous gift bag of the high quality products we know we can expect from Wiscoy, plus, of course, the fruits of our visit hunting labor. Great experience!”
