About
Something Fishy in Northampton, Pennsylvania has built a devoted following as a saltwater aquarium superstore — the kind of place where customers willingly make two- and three-hour drives and keep coming back for years. The store's focus is laser-sharp: marine fish, corals, invertebrates, and everything needed to build and maintain a thriving reef tank. The coral selection alone is a major draw, ranging from $10 frags to high-end show pieces, and the livestock consistently earns praise for arriving healthy and staying that way.
Reviewers note the invertebrates are in excellent condition, the tanks are meticulously clean, and the variety of saltwater fish is among the best in the region. Live rock, dry rock, and a full range of equipment — pumps, lights, tanks — round out the inventory so you can source an entire setup under one roof. What truly sets Something Fishy apart is the depth of expertise behind the counter.
Staff members like Todd and Veronica are called out by name for sharing real, practical knowledge about reef keeping, from compatibility advice to tank maintenance troubleshooting. The owner has been known to help customers mock up rock scapes on the spot. They've also been known to refuse a sale if they believe a fish won't thrive in a customer's setup — a tang, for instance, if the tank isn't large enough — which speaks to a genuine care for animal welfare over the transaction.
The store offers water testing (note there is a $10 fee) and has helped customers set up multiple tanks over the years, earning long-term loyalty from hobbyists who consider it their home base. One reviewer has been a customer since 2011 and visits weekly. Another described the packaging of livestock purchases as consistently professional.
The layout is clean and well-organized, and the atmosphere is welcoming enough that even non-saltwater hobbyists stop in for equipment. For marine aquarists in eastern Pennsylvania, Something Fishy is the destination store — purpose-built for the reef hobby and staffed by people who live it.

— Jarisa Torres5.02 months ago“Absolutely 5 star. Staff is very helpful and takes time to share knowledge and if they are not helping a customer they are cleaning. These tanks are 100% clean. Ill continue to make the 3 hr drive to buy here. Thanks for the beautiful corals and fish!”
— Tim Blose5.02 months ago“Great place for ALL things fishy!”
— RoxAnne Masino5.03 months ago“"I was impressed by the staff's politeness and extensive knowledge. However, I deducted 2 star due to the unexpected $10 charge for the water test. Unlike Petco's free water testing, this wasn't clearly communicated beforehand. Despite using quality equipment, their test results indicated my water was unfit for my fish, prompting me to purchase corrective products. Curious, I retested my water at Petco and found their results to be more accurate. I've since invested in a comprehensive water testing kit for future use. Interestingly, the fish I purchased from this store are thriving, as evidenced by the photo of one of my healthy and active fish." I will definitely buy again just when it come to charge without telling me I don't like it but is worth going to buy fish Thank you”
