The Hidden Reef in Levittown, Pennsylvania occupies a massive retail footprint that feels more like a public aquarium than a pet store. Multiple reviewers report spending over an hour just walking the aisles, admiring elaborate display tanks and browsing what is widely considered the best fish selection within a two-hour radius. The inventory spans freshwater and saltwater livestock — including beautiful discus, angelfish, mollies, and flame scallops — alongside a dedicated pond room that has left visitors genuinely awestruck.
For reef hobbyists, the coral selection stands out. " Dry goods are a consistent strong suit: tanks, lighting, frozen food, Hydros control cables, tubing for auto water change setups, and general aquarium supplies fill the shelves at reasonable prices. Live freshwater plants are available, though stock can be hit or miss depending on timing.
Staff members like Jason, Roland, Sean, and Matt earn genuine praise for their patience and depth of knowledge. Roland once spent over an hour helping a father and daughter choose compatible fish for their tank. Jason has walked customers through detailed goldfish maintenance procedures.
These aren't scripted interactions — they're the kind of real conversations that help hobbyists avoid costly mistakes. The store does have some uneven spots. Several reviewers note dead fish in tanks, signs of ich, and at least one report of a significant red flatworm infestation in the saltwater systems.
Getting help on the fish floor can require patience, as staff sometimes seem stretched thin across the large space. These are recurring themes worth noting, though many regular customers consider the issues manageable given the store's scale. The Hidden Reef remains a destination shop for Levittown-area aquarists.
The sheer variety of livestock, the deep equipment inventory, and staff who genuinely care about the hobby make it a store that rewards the visit — just bring your quarantine game if you're adding to an established tank.

This place is great. However, a week ago I brought home 5 Mollys. 3 are dead and one of my angelfish died. Haven’t had any deaths in my tank in a couple of years. I took the 2 remaining Mollys out of the tank. I hope everyone that shops here has much better luck than I recently had.

Place is in its own category of a pet store. If you have given this anything less than a 5 star I am not too sure where your shopping. Place is epic I spent well over an hour in here just admiring the display tanks and everything else in it. If your into reefing the equipment is off the charts. Just one thing please drop some merch you have such an awesome business let ppl represent it!! This community lacks clothing and it’s such a hidden gem. See you soon!

Employees were supper friendly! However, not much of a selection in fish, fresh water or salt. The condition the fish and reptiles are living in is questionable, but I do not frequent this store enough to make a proper judgment. I will say it is not worth the journey if you do not live close to the store. This place definitely has potential, it just doesn't seem to be trying to get there.

I wanted to update my review because my feelings about this store changed after my visit today. My main concern with this update is the condition of the live fish and overall aquarium care. I’m not sure what has happened over the past seven months, but I was very disappointed. I’ve never seen a store with such a severe red flatworm infestation being so blatantly ignored. Red flatworms are one of the hardest pests to eliminate in a home aquarium—especially in saltwater systems that many hobbyists invest thousands of dollars into. I was planning to buy a flame scallop, something I’ve wanted for a long time and rarely see available, but ultimately decided not to due to the infestation risk. I also noticed a fair amount of ich, which isn’t the end of the world but is still disappointing to see at this level. It’s also clear that proper net soaking or sterilization isn’t being practiced, which likely contributes to these issues. Outside of the live systems, their dry goods selection is still excellent, and their overall fish selection remains strong. Staff were easier to find this time and more personable than during my last visit. I have a lot of friends in the hobby and regularly help newer hobbyists get started, and this is a store I would normally recommend without hesitation. Unfortunately, because of the blatant issues in the live systems, I won’t be recommending it anymore, which is a real shame. I can’t suggest a store with problems like this, and I genuinely hope they address them because this place has a lot of potential.

Hidden Reef is one of the best places to buy Fishes and related products. The staff here is very friendly and knowledgeable and don’t try to over sell the products. We were able to clear up a lot of doubts that we had on our Gold Fishes and their maintenance. Jason was kind enough to spend time explaining in detail about better aquarium maintenance procedures.

Customer service was great, tanks were clean, entire COLONIES there were the same price, plus or minus a few bucks of a 4x for $100 frag pack of TINY frags elsewhere. I grabbed a Hydros control cable, some tubing for my AWC setup and several blister packs of frozen food cubes for the aF4. Definitely worth the drive.
