That Fish Place - That Pet Place in Lancaster, Pennsylvania is a sprawling retail destination that has earned a reputation as one of the largest pet and aquarium stores in the region. With over 9,000 reviews and a loyal following across Central PA, this is the kind of place people build road trips around — and for good reason. The aquarium side of the store is the main draw for fishkeepers.
Rows upon rows of shelving stock dry goods and equipment at prices that reviewers consistently describe as competitive with Amazon, which is no small feat for a brick-and-mortar retailer. Bulk packaging options make it especially appealing for hobbyists maintaining multiple tanks or running through consumables quickly. The freshwater section features a solid selection of aquarium plants and livestock, while the saltwater department has earned particular praise — multiple customers call it the best place in Central PA to buy saltwater fish.
The live animals throughout the store appear well cared for, a detail that matters to serious hobbyists who've been burned by big-box stores with neglected tanks. While the selection of equipment and supplies is vast, some visitors note that despite the enormous floor space, certain niche categories can feel a bit thin. It's a store that carries a decent amount of nearly everything rather than going impossibly deep in any single category.
Beyond the aquarium department, the store doubles as a family destination. A stingray touch tank gives kids (and adults) a hands-on experience, and animal shows add an educational element that makes a visit feel like more than just a shopping trip. The store covers reptiles, birds, small animals, dogs, and cats in addition to its fish inventory.
Floor staff on the aquarium side can be hard to track down — it's a big store and they stay busy — but cashiers consistently earn praise for being friendly and engaging. If you're traveling through Lancaster or anywhere in Central PA, this is a worthwhile stop for stocking up on supplies, browsing livestock, and soaking in a genuinely fun pet store atmosphere.

Customer service was terrible. Tried to exchange something that I purchased 4 days ago that just completely stopped working. I was informed by phone that I would be able to exchange the product when I get to the store they let me return it but said I have to wait 2 to 3 business days to get my money back for what I just returned and if I still wanted the product I would just have to repurchase it. Instead of putting the return on a gift card or giving me store credit or just an even exchange they tried to make me purchase the product again. Very terrible communication between employees and bad customer service.

the one guy in the fish room was being a dick to us when all we did was ask a question and he was saying how he couldn’t sell us anything after we already showed him a picture of are tank and he said it looked nice

I mainly shop here for the aquarium side, which is what this review is based on. The store has a ton of shelving but somehow still feels a bit limited in selection. You would expect to find everything here. That said, they do carry a decent amount, and the bulk packaging options are really convenient. Pricing is excellent and very competitive, even compared to Amazon. The live animals all seem well cared for. My main downside is the floor staff. They are hard to find and rarely approach customers, and they usually seem busy. When I have asked for help, they were nice, so it feels more like an availability issue. The cashiers, however, are great. They are friendly, fun to talk to, and leave a positive impression. I have been here more than five times over the past year when traveling through the area, and despite a few gripes, it is still 100% worth stopping at. Solid store with room to improve.
