About
Tucked away in Valley City, Ohio, Aquatica Aquarium Gallery draws fishkeepers from over an hour away — and they keep coming back. The store is packed wall-to-wall with hundreds of tanks spanning both freshwater and saltwater livestock, from lionfish and ghost knives to hammer corals and shrimp suited for nano setups. Reviewers consistently note the health of the animals, with one coral buyer remarking on zero pests and thriving hammers, crediting the store's use of macroalgae for natural filtration — a detail rarely seen in retail aquarium shops.
The plant selection is a standout. Staff members like Luke actively notify customers when specific plants arrive, and the hardscape section, managed by knowledgeable team members like Jordan, offers an impressive variety of rocks and stones with guidance on compatibility for different aquarium setups. A unique gravel table lets customers experiment with combinations of natural decorations before committing — a hands-on touch that speaks to how seriously Aquatica takes aquascaping.
The freshwater planted tank community will find everything they need here, including supplies for large-scale builds. One customer running a 480-gallon planted tank with a 100-gallon sump reported finding everything on their list. On the saltwater side, the store stocks reef corals and carries brands like Red Sea, though custom delivery and installation services have drawn mixed feedback.
Staff member Lindsay has helped customers design and build nano aquariums from scratch, and Kim earns praise for patient, educational interactions with newer hobbyists. Pricing opinions vary — some find it reasonable and competitive with area shops, while others note certain species like rope fish and plecos carry a premium compared to nearby competitors. But the consensus is clear: the livestock quality, massive selection, and genuinely helpful staff — Steve, Josh, Jordan, Luke, Kim, Lindsay — make the drive worthwhile.
The store feels wonderfully overstuffed, described by one visitor as having the energy of a New York deli, but with fish tanks instead of sandwich boards.

— Pete5.04 months ago“I would not recommend this store. I was in the market for a large, 184g S-850 MAX Red Sea aquarium however wanted to be sure to purchase from a store that could also do the moving into the location of my basement as it’s a very large and heavy tank! That was my only ask prior to purchasing an 11k aquarium. I spoke with the owner who said he would do a site visit to check on this location for me, however later said through text that he would only come to determine the location possibility after the “transaction is finalized”. How does this make any sense? Are you going to refund me 11k if you determine the location is not possible to move the aquarium to? I would avoid this place. My new Red Sea aquarium is now in its spot and all is well, thanks to another shop.”
