Coral Reef in Perrysburg, Ohio has carved out a devoted following among saltwater hobbyists across the Toledo metro area and beyond — some customers drive an hour just to walk through the door. This family-owned shop, run by Susan, Mike, Mark, and their team, focuses exclusively on the marine side of the hobby, stocking a rotating selection of saltwater fish, coral frags, live rock, anemones, and invertebrates like porcelain crabs and emerald crabs. The store's reputation starts with its cleanliness.
Reviewers consistently note that the tanks are immaculate and the livestock looks healthy — a detail that matters enormously in the saltwater world, where stressed or sick animals can crash a reef tank overnight. Their display tank draws plenty of admirers, and the sales tanks are stocked with clownfish, puffer fish (who apparently beg for attention from visitors), Duncan corals, montipora, and various soft corals and frags. For higher-end SPS collectors, the selection may lean more toward beginner and intermediate pieces, but for the broader marine community, the variety hits the mark.
What sets Coral Reef apart is the hands-on guidance. Staff will test your water, ask detailed questions about your setup — one reviewer was impressed that someone actually asked about their live rock weight — and will hold off on selling you livestock if your tank isn't ready. They've helped numerous first-time saltwater keepers get through those critical early weeks, and they'll even make house calls for tank maintenance.
They're also willing to order specialty items not currently in stock. Pricing runs higher than big-box competitors, which some customers note as a tradeoff for quarantined, acclimated livestock and personalized service. For anyone building or maintaining a marine aquarium in northwest Ohio, Coral Reef offers something increasingly rare: a dedicated saltwater shop where the staff genuinely invests in your tank's long-term success.

Coral Reef is top notch! My husband and I have visited Coral Reef many times and every time we do we have found the owners and staff to be so super friendly and helpful! They always take time with us and never make us feel rushed into a decision. I also very much appreciate that they care about the health of their fish and coral. They want to make sure the tank environment and water quality is ready to support the corals or fish we want. The last thing anyone wants is to invest money and have their beloved new additions die due to poor water conditions. Although I'm not exactly the most patient person, I really appreciate their ethical practices. :-) This is something you do not see at the big box store chains! If you are considering getting into the saltwater world, I would highly recommend Coral Reef! The owners are a delight, full of knowledge and always ready to listen and help any way they can. Go in and check out their beautiful display tank and the other wonderful aquariums full of beautiful coral and stunning fish! You wont be disappointed!
