Pet Finatics in Oregon, Ohio has carved out a loyal following as the Toledo-area's go-to independent pet store, stocking the kind of niche products and unusual livestock that big-box retailers simply don't carry. While it's a full-service pet shop covering everything from dog beds to bird seed, the store has a real draw for freshwater fish enthusiasts and reptile keepers alike. The freshwater fish section offers a solid and sometimes surprising selection.
One reviewer raved about scoring a deal on an arowana that grew "exponentially healthy," calling Pet Finatics a top destination for exotic freshwater fish. Betta keepers will find their needs well covered — one regular described it as their go-to for all things betta. The general fish selection draws consistent praise, though a few reviewers have noted water quality concerns and occasional sick fish in the tanks, so it's worth inspecting livestock carefully before purchasing.
Beyond fish, the reptile section is a standout. Ball pythons, bearded dragons, geckos, and a resident tortoise named Shakespeare give the store an almost zoo-like charm that keeps families and hobbyists coming back. Staff members like Jenna earn specific praise for walking customers through bearded dragon setups with genuine expertise.
What really sets Pet Finatics apart is the inventory depth. Bulk pet food sold by the pound, over-the-counter pet allergy medicine, species-specific supplies, and fresh treats line the shelves at prices that undercut even Walmart on some items. One customer found cat ear treatment meds for six dollars less than the big-box alternative.
The store also stocks feeder mice at competitive prices for reptile owners. The staff is consistently described as knowledgeable and approachable, with most reviewers feeling genuinely welcomed the moment they walk in. The parking lot could use some love, and the fish room apparently gets its music cranked a bit loud sometimes, but these are minor quibbles for a locally owned shop that clearly puts animal welfare and customer relationships first.

Bought $65 in fish all died in a week. 24 hour guarantee is worthless. Bought fish from PetSmart in the same tank no issues. PetSmart tested my water and had no issues. Beware ⚠️

Me and the gf like to window shop here often in hopes to one day soon adopt an adorable pet. And within going here for weeks, we’ve had GREAT experiences. Although most recently, we have went in there a few times and there’s a particular individual, Dawn, who i asked politely if i could handle a ball python as i browse around the store, which is something i have done everytime i’ve went in there. In which case, i then asked to handle the BALL PYTHON, with the comment along the lines of, “that snake has been here for awhile, i feel bad for it, no one has came to buy it yet.” And out of the blue she then was ARGUING with me and raising her voice to bash me on the animal I had asked to handle, and proceeded to tell me, “Do you wanna bet this snake just got here?” in an uninviting tone to say the least. In which case, my gf intervened to correct her (Dawn) that i was talking about the BP when i made said statement about feeling bad. She then was very dismissive and rude about everything and ignored us afterwards. And i understand a misconception in words right? but just ask to repeat and not scream, “WANNA BET?” “Then buy it”, to a potential buyer, a customer at that. After that, i don’t have an interest in buying from here and don’t wish to make visits any time soon. Which is a shame because i did like everything about that place until that occurrence.

This is the best store I have been to. They have the great prices and you can always find what you need there. The staff are amazing as soon as you walk in they greet you very nice and they always say to you let us know if there's anything we can help you with. I don't like going any place else for my pet supplies
