Josh The Fish Guy operates out of Miamisburg, Ohio as a mobile aquarium service provider, and his reputation rests almost entirely on one thing: an extraordinary willingness to share knowledge and solve problems. This isn't a traditional storefront — Josh runs a service-based operation focused on tank maintenance, setup, and consultation, serving the greater Dayton area with a personal touch that's hard to find in the hobby. Reviewers consistently describe phone calls and Facebook chats that stretch well past an hour, with Josh walking customers through everything from combating algae blooms in freshwater tanks to planning a first saltwater aquarium from scratch.
One customer recounted how Josh spent nearly two hours explaining saltwater tank basics, equipment needs, and styling options — all for free — and then actually talked them out of hiring his cleaning service for a small tank because it wouldn't be cost-effective. That kind of honesty defines his business. His hands-on services include regular tank cleanings (many customers schedule biweekly visits), full tank setups and teardowns, fish relocation, and equipment troubleshooting.
When one client's Kessil light failed after two years, Josh contacted the manufacturer directly and secured a free replacement while servicing their saltwater tank. Another customer credits him with saving them from a potential flooding disaster during maintenance. Josh's expertise spans both freshwater and saltwater systems.
He's helped customers care for a nearly 12-year-old goldfish named Bob, advised on axolotl care, guided turtle owners through proper habitat setup, and walked first-time saltwater hobbyists through every step of the process. He also provides RO water for saltwater mixing. The trade-off is that there's no physical shop to browse — his listed address has confused a few customers who expected a retail location.
But for Miamisburg-area aquarists who need reliable tank maintenance, thoughtful setup guidance, or just honest advice from someone who genuinely loves what he does, Josh delivers consistently.
