About
RJ's Aquarium is a family-run fish store in Hebron, Ohio, operated as a brother-and-sister business that has served the local aquarium community for over two decades. This small mom-and-pop shop carries both freshwater and saltwater fish, along with corals, tanks, and lighting — a modest but focused inventory that regulars have come to appreciate for its competitive pricing. The store has built a loyal following among Hebron-area hobbyists who value the personal, face-to-face service that bigger pet chains can't replicate.
Staff member Pam has been specifically praised by customers for being helpful and kind, and the fish in the shop are generally described as well cared for. Several reviewers note that the store's prices stand out as a strong draw, particularly for the freshwater and saltwater livestock they keep in stock. That said, RJ's Aquarium is genuinely small — customers should set expectations accordingly.
The selection is limited compared to larger retailers, and the space itself is compact. Some recent visitors have reported inconsistent hours and difficulty accessing the store, with a few noting the lights were off despite the sign indicating the shop was open. There are also signs that the business may be in a transitional period, as at least one reviewer observed a for-sale sign on the property.
For those in Licking County and the surrounding area who prefer supporting a local, independent fish store, RJ's offers something increasingly rare: a neighborhood shop where you can have a real conversation about your tank and walk out with affordable livestock. The store stocks a mix of community fish — tiger barbs, catfish, and other staples — across both freshwater and saltwater sections. If you're planning a visit, it's worth calling ahead to confirm hours and availability, as the shop operates on a smaller schedule than chain retailers.
When you do catch them open, the personalized attention and fair pricing make the trip worthwhile for Hebron's fishkeeping community.

“Great place”
— Robert Hugs4.03 days ago“Unfortunately this place isn’t like it once was years ago. I stopped in last week to see what all they had since I started a new tank. Sign said open, walked in, but didn’t see anyone. And all lights were off by the few tanks they had. I felt weird being there and hurried out. There is a forsale by owner sign in the front yard… I think they are or will be closing permanently soon.”

I showed up 20 minutes before closing and the worker inside saw me and immediatly shut off their lights and their door was locked. Not sure if I'll ever have a chance to actually see their inventory.”
