About
Aquatic Technology in Columbia Station, Ohio has earned a reputation as one of the state's premier saltwater fish stores, drawing hobbyists from Columbus, Wooster, and well beyond — some making two-hour-plus drives just to browse the inventory. Owner Greg and his son Greg Jr. run this dedicated marine shop with decades of hands-on expertise, and the livestock selection reflects that commitment.
The store carries a massive range of saltwater fish, corals, and invertebrates, including seahorses — a genuinely hard-to-find species that multiple reviewers specifically traveled to purchase. There's also a beloved resident known as Mr. Grinch that visitors call a must-see.
What sets Aquatic Technology apart is the depth of knowledge behind the counter. Greg Sr. has been known to research parasitic isopods on stingrays, administer anesthesia for safe removal, and refuse to sell any fish he doesn't feel confident is healthy and eating well.
That kind of care translates into livestock quality that customers consistently praise — healthy, vibrant fish and corals that survive the transition home. For newcomers setting up their first saltwater tank, staff like Katie have been singled out for patiently walking through every question. The store stocks a solid array of dry goods, equipment, and supplies alongside the livestock.
Outside, a greenhouse area houses large plant tubs and even breeding cardinal fish — an unexpected bonus that delights visitors exploring beyond the main showroom. Greg also keeps a collection of vintage aquarium books in the back, which he's been known to share with interested customers. The atmosphere is more working fish house than polished retail showroom, which some visitors love and others find rough around the edges.
A handful of reviews mention inconsistent customer service or feeling overlooked, though the majority describe Greg and his team as welcoming and generous with their time. For serious saltwater hobbyists in northeast Ohio looking for selection, healthy livestock, and real expertise on topics like carbon dosing, acclimation, and quarantine protocols, Aquatic Technology delivers.

Bought my live rock from here to start my reef tank and the live rock was amazing for cycling my tank and having good bacteria already on it. Nice coral selection too and dry goods, highly recommend.”

— scottoftheadam5.0a month ago“Greg and his son both are extremely knowledgeable about the hobby both at the entry level and the extreme enthusiast level; while seeking advice regarding carbon dosing, acclimation and quarantine, I spoke with Greg Sr, who invited me to look at the sting ray they were treating that had some form of parasitic isopod. He extensively researched the type of parasite, stages of infection and risks for removal, before leveraging a form anesthesia and freshwater dips to safely remove the parasite. I also have had multiple experiences with fish I wanted to purchase that had a rough time in shipping, or came in skinnier than expected. Greg always ensures the fish that go out the door are healthy and in good condition. He won’t sell a fish he doesn’t feel confident in. I’ve never had a doubt in the years we’ve been coming here, and for my family, that timeline spans decades.”
