About
Tucked into Cleveland's North Collinwood neighborhood, Rainy Day Fish LLC is a family-run aquarium store where the owners — including the well-known Melissa — treat fishkeeping as a personal calling rather than a retail transaction. This mom-and-pop shop stocks both freshwater and saltwater fish, but its real magnetism is for cichlid keepers: regulars rave about the "great variety of Cichlids" for sale in Cleveland, OH, and one customer walked out with ten for a 200-gallon tank, then came back the next week for ten more because the pricing made a full stocking list genuinely affordable. What sets the store apart is the depth of care behind the counter.
The owners quarantine incoming fish before they reach the sales floor, a practice repeat buyers point to again and again. When one family lost tiger oscars to a parasitic outbreak, the owner stayed past closing to walk them through a complete treatment protocol — including medicated food — until every fish recovered. Stop in with a sick tank or a stocking question and a salesperson will test your water on the spot and talk through compatibility, disease treatment, or a first setup without rushing you out the door.
Alongside the livestock you'll find live plants, heaters, filtration media like Seachem Matrix Carbon, RO water, and the kind of unusual, hard-to-find species that don't turn up at the big-box stores. Recent visitors describe healthy fish, a knowledgeable crew that clearly cares about the animals, and a friendly, personable counter — though the shop wears its rough-around-the-edges, hobbyist character honestly rather than chasing showroom polish. For cichlid and discus hobbyists, saltwater keepers, or a newcomer setting up a first tank, this is a genuine independent option for healthy fish available in Cleveland, OH.
Searching for an aquarium store near me with owners who actually love the fish? Rainy Day Fish is exactly that kind of place.

— Kimberly Mabrey3.05 days ago“Rainy Day Fish is hands down one of the best fish stores I’ve been to. Super clean, healthy fish, and an awesome selection you don’t usually see elsewhere. The staff clearly knows what they’re doing and actually cares about the animals, which makes a huge difference. Whether you’re new or experienced, this is the spot to go. Highly recommend!”

— Tharon Eulinberg5.04 months ago“Low quality. No effort, why is it so dirty? Honestly, sad.”
— Jessica Mickey1.04 months ago“Fish look healthy... but the store is filthy. The quail in the back are being kept in very poor conditions. The whole store could use a good cleaning. There were even mosquitos flying around inside during January in cleveland. Also the reptiles (geckos) are kept in the smallest dirty containers possible. They should do better for the animals.”
— Aidan Medley2.03 weeks ago“Rainy Days is a wonderful local fish store. The owners are knowledgeable helpful and exceedingly patient. They willingly answer all of my questions, even those that I think at some point seem stupid. They have a terrific selection of fish that seem to be very reasonably priced. I have shopped there repeatedly, since everything they sell is high quality. I also love the fact that they are personally involved and it is not a chain They explained to me that the fish come come in and are appropriately quarantined so that we do not wind up with any diseased fish that could crash our tank. I will continue to shop there whenever I need fish plants or supplies.”
