About
In the small mountain town of Fairview, North Carolina, The Evolved Fish has earned a loyal following that stretches well beyond the county line — regulars happily make the easy drive out from Asheville and across western NC to shop a selection that bigger pet stores simply can't match. Owner Lee runs the place with an encyclopedic knowledge of fishkeeping, and customers consistently describe him and the staff (longtime helper Craig among them) as patient, friendly, and willing to talk species compatibility, water parameters, and tank setup for as long as it takes. ' The store's reputation is built on cichlids.
From large, rare cichlids to shell-dwelling multies for nano setups, the selection draws hobbyists who can't find these fish anywhere else nearby — if you've searched for hard-to-find cichlids for sale in Fairview, NC, this is the shop people point you to. Lee will also special-order unusual species for customers who know exactly what they want. Because The Evolved Fish carries both freshwater and saltwater livestock, it reads more like a mini aquarium than a corner shop — saltwater eels, sea urchins, and curious turtles share the room with nano fish, livebearers, and a wall of healthy, well-kept tanks.
Invertebrate fans drive in for shrimp; one shopper called the trip from Asheville worth it just to get the particular shrimp he was after. The live aquatic plants are a draw of their own, well-established and famously well-priced, with customers reporting that everything from a showpiece sword plant to background greenery thrives once it gets home. This is a true hole-in-the-wall aquarium store, tucked near the Fairview Library — and when the small lot fills up, regulars park there and walk across.
For healthy fish, live plants, and invertebrates available in Fairview, NC, backed by genuinely expert guidance, The Evolved Fish keeps WNC aquarists coming back.

“I ordered something May 3rd and I emailed them a week later. No response. Just called the store right to voicemail. The voicemail is full. Looks like I'm going to have to start a claim with my credit card company.”

— CwGrL_ LdY5.04 months ago“Ben there on a few years go. Loved it when I went there. Now trying to go can never seem to get there when there supposed to be open. Even during the hours advertised. Try. All phone goes straight to voicemail. Are they even still open. How do you even see the store anymore. Won’t reply back to any messages ether. If you have hours posted be open during them or post why your now on social media. This is just bad customer service.”

If the parking lot is full, you can park at the Fairview Library and pop across the parking lots. Support your local library and your local fish store. Also, look how pretty my sword is!”
