About
Pet City LLC in Seabrook, New Hampshire is a family-owned pet shop that has been a fixture in the community for decades — the kind of place where longtime customers remember visiting as kids and now return as adults to buy supplies for their own animals. Run by Tom, the store occupies a modest building that houses a surprisingly varied inventory spanning aquarium fish, reptiles, birds, and small mammals across two floors. The aquatics section downstairs features a range of freshwater fish including cichlids, oscars, and angelfish, along with what multiple reviewers describe as well-established planted tanks with a great selection of aquatic plants.
Tom is also recognized by customers as one of the most knowledgeable saltwater experts in the area, so marine hobbyists can find informed guidance here as well. Reviewers frequently mention encountering unusual species they wouldn't find at big-box competitors — the kind of cool shop fish that reflect years of personal curation. Tom's willingness to special order products and food sets the store apart, and customers regularly praise his encyclopedic knowledge across species.
He's the type of owner who will walk you through feeding a baby royal python for the first time or help you dial in habitat specs for a bearded dragon. The store carries high-quality supplies and food, with customers noting things like feeder crickets that last weeks longer than those from chain stores. It's worth noting that Pet City is a polarizing shop.
Some visitors have raised serious concerns about tank cleanliness, water quality, and animal housing conditions, while others who visit around the same timeframe describe things as perfectly fine and no worse than any small pet shop. The truth likely varies by the day and the season. Upstairs you'll find birds, rodents, and other small animals.
The store has a distinctly homey, no-frills atmosphere — it won't win any interior design awards, but for customers who value personal relationships and deep expertise over polished retail environments, Pet City has cultivated a loyal following in the Seabrook area that spans generations.

— MuteCase1.011 months ago“Mom and pop store, wonderful people! They have some small animals and a few birds upstairs and down they have reptile room and aquarium area with a plethora of fish! Always pleasant greeting with a smile. Check it out!”
— Stephanie Masten (Stephie)5.0a year ago“I have been going here since I was a child. It seems dark and dingy, but there's everything. And if it's not in stock, don't be afraid to ask the gentleman who works there! He's a wealth of knowledge and can order anything for you! I'd rather support a local little shop than a big chain any day. Plus, they usually have super cool shop fish that you don't always get to see. They also have the shop pet fish for a super duper long time, so you know they take care of their animals, reptiles, and fish REALLY well. Check out upstairs for flying friends or rodents!”
— Brandi Wilson5.0a year ago“We stopped here yesterday 11/16/24 and my wife and I were discussed with this place. Some of the fish tanks were leaking all over the floor. He had a large I’d say 60 gallon tank with the light off severely overstocked with cichlids with a giant tiger Oscar.. Couple of the other tanks, the fish had ick. In some other tanks there were angel fish dead and dying. All of the tanks looked like they had not been cleaned in weeks. This place should be shut down! Driving by this place, you would think it was an abandoned building if it wasn’t for the light up sign in the door you would think it was.. How does the state state of New Hampshire let this guy keep this place open???? all of these animals in this place should be taken out and given a better home.”

— John Szocik2.0a year ago“I had a great experience with Tom. I called ahead of time, and he had exactly what I needed, plus some more items he happened to have the day I went. He gave me great info to help me feed my baby royal python for the 1st time. He took it right away, and it was over in moments. I left him alone with his meal, and it was gone upon my return! Thanks Tom! 🥳”
