About
Claremont Pet & Aquarium Center has earned a devoted following across New Hampshire's Upper Valley, with hobbyists routinely driving an hour or more to reach its aquarium section in Claremont. Much of that pull comes from Josh, the store's full-time fish expert, whose passion shows in the crystal-clear tanks and healthy, active livestock lining the walls. Regulars like Tarah, who has kept her 50-gallon tank stocked here for years, and Virginia, who returns to Josh and Dakota for fish-care advice, describe staff who listen to your vision and then help you build toward it.
Matthew Boulton put it plainly: a great help and a fantastic source of information. The freshwater selection is the heart of the shop, leaning toward hardy, vibrant species. There's an especially strong lineup of smaller fish like tetras, alongside bettas, shrimp, snails, and live plants for sale in Claremont, NH.
One recent visitor left with fish, shrimp, and a red lotus for a newly cycled tank after talking through placement and feeding with Josh. The saltwater wall in the back holds corals and clownfish, and Josh is glad to trade reef-building ideas with anyone curious. Driftwood, rocks, and aquascaping hardscape round out the aquatic goods, and full tank setups are available for newcomers ready to start.
If you're searching for healthy freshwater fish, corals, or planted-tank supplies near me, this is an aquarium store worth the trip. Beyond fish, the Claremont location is a full-service pet store. The bird room draws its own loyal fans — Dionna and Amanda are praised for breed knowledge, nail trims, and patient first-bird guidance — and shoppers have brought home snakes and small animals here too.
On-site dog grooming runs through the Affectionate Pet Salon, where Anna and Perrin keep tails looking sharp. Prices run higher than big-box and online options, and the return policy is strict, but for livestock quality, spotless tanks, and genuine one-on-one help, regulars say the premium earns its keep.

The employees in the bird room are very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Dionna knows so much about each breed of birds, she was so helpful when we got our first bird. She helped us learn about which pellets were best for our bird. Both our birds go in to get their nails trimmed, Amanda and Dionna always do such a great job! Highly recommend!!”

— Matthew Boulton5.02 months ago“Though having a family connection to Claremont Pet & Aquarium, I live 6+ hours away from this establishment. My intentions weren’t to necessarily buy any fish or aquarium supplies for my new aquarium setup while visiting family today. After getting to look at the whole store and then looking at everything in the aquarium & fish section, I knew I was hooked. Josh in the fish department was fantastic in answering questions and giving guidance as I took the leap of faith with adding new fish to my new, but cycled for 3 weeks, tank. I had a list of what I wanted and the type of tank presentation I’m aiming for. Josh showed interest and insight. I felt compelled to get some fish and knowing that it was going to be 24-30 hours before my new fish (limited bio load) and new plant, red lotus, Josh oxygenated the bags of fish, shrimp and plant. Packed them very carefully in an insulated box and gave me additional recommendations for tank placement along with food. I feel very confident that my fish will make the 6 hour journey very well and can’t wait for them to thrive in my new tank. Thank you Josh for a great experience!”
— Jim Sears5.02 months ago“The staff here are very knowledgeable, I religiously come to Josh and Dakota for their expertise in caring for my fish. 10 out 10, would recommend this place (and have) to anyone I know who has pets.”
— Virginia Savoy5.0Edited 3 months ago“Rats: Bought 2 Fancy males for $50 As well as 6 Feeders for $60 Within 48 hours one Fancy and 2 Feeders had parished. Mind you the 3 Females I had purchased from Lebanon are all perfectly fine. For 3/8 Rats to die "because they arent used to eachother" when they literally all came from the same store and nobody was housed any different than when they were at the store (breeders with breeders)(Fancy with fancy) of the 110$ i spent on rats 45$ of that died because I didnt let them "get adjusted"... what? Its my fault all their rats are dying?”
