About

Aquarium Shoppe holds the distinction of being Springfield, Missouri's dedicated fish store — a neighborhood shop that covers both freshwater and saltwater fish alongside tanks, equipment, and aquatic plants. For hobbyists in the area, it serves as the go-to destination for aquarium supplies and advice, though the experience can vary depending on who's behind the counter. Regulars speak highly of the store's clean tanks and healthy fish, and several reviewers single out Claudia, the owner, as particularly knowledgeable and welcoming.

When the right staff is working, customers report getting thorough explanations about fish care and aquarium setup — the kind of hands-on guidance that makes a local fish store irreplaceable. The store stocks freshwater and saltwater fish, goldfish, live aquatic plants, and general aquarium supplies at prices reviewers consistently describe as fair and reasonable. That said, the reviews paint an uneven picture of customer service.

Multiple visitors describe walking in and never being acknowledged, with some staff seeming disinterested in helping. One family drove 30 minutes hoping to stock a new aquarium and left empty-handed after receiving curt, unhelpful responses about goldfish and plant availability. These experiences contrast sharply with the glowing reviews from loyal customers who feel well taken care of.

The store itself is modest in size — reviewers call it a "nice little shop" — and selection can be limited at times. It's the kind of place where inventory may fluctuate, so managing expectations on any given visit is wise. Families with kids have enjoyed browsing the tanks, and the store's resident pets add charm to the atmosphere.

For Springfield aquarists, Aquarium Shoppe fills a vital niche as the city's only dedicated fish store. When Claudia or engaged staff members are on the floor, customers get the personalized consultation and quality livestock that keep them coming back. The shop has a loyal following and genuine expertise to offer — the consistency just needs to match the passion.

  • “I really wanted to love this place as it’s the only actual fish store in town. We aren’t from here and my husband has been very excited to start up his aquarium hobby again. To our surprise when he walked in and asked the woman working if they had any goldfish she said “yeah a couple” and then when my husband asked where they were she rudely pointed vaguely in the direction. My husband walked over to the goldfish tank where there were 2 sickly goldfish. No thanks. So he goes up to the woman again (who has not once stepped from behind the counter, asked if he needed anything or even gave him any sort of assistance whatsoever) and asks if they have any other fresh water fish and she goes “yeah I guess” and then my husband at this point is pretty annoyed and asks one more time “okay do you have any aquatic plants” and she said “barely” barely. that was it. so he walked out. what a waste of a 30 minute drive there and back with our children who were so excited to go to the fish store in our new town. We would absolutely love to give you guys business if you cared about your customers and your fish.”

  • “Walked in, was never acknowledged... the 2 girls were more interested in giggling with the only other customer in there. I looked around and waited for 1 of the girls to assist me. Neither seemed interested in helping me so I left .... not a huge selection of fish either....”
