Miles of Exotics in Liberty, Missouri is a sprawling pet store that earns its reputation through an impressive freshwater fish department, a thriving live plant selection, and a staff that clearly knows their stuff. While the store covers a wide range of exotic animals — reptiles, arachnids, birds, and more — the aquatic section is a genuine draw for fish keepers across the Kansas City metro area. The freshwater livestock selection is notably diverse.
One customer drove from Blue Springs specifically to find the right cichlid and walked out with a Blue Terror Cichlid he named "Swim Shady," guided by a staff member named Jerry who followed up with additional care information by phone. That kind of personal investment is a recurring theme in reviews — employees like Garret and Danica are mentioned by name for taking time with customers, discussing tank health one-on-one, and making thoughtful livestock recommendations. The planted tank section deserves special mention.
Multiple reviewers highlight the quality and health of aquatic plants, and newcomers to aquascaping praise the staff for walking them through plant selection and compatibility. Driftwood and other aquascaping supplies round out the offering, making it a solid one-stop shop for anyone building a freshwater planted setup. Shrimp, crawdads, and other invertebrates are also available alongside a broad range of freshwater fish.
The store itself is consistently described as one of the cleanest pet stores customers have encountered — tanks are well-maintained, animals appear healthy, and the overall atmosphere is inviting rather than overwhelming. Prices are called reasonable and fair for the quality of livestock offered. Miles of Exotics clearly functions as more than just a retail operation.
Staff take genuine pride in animal welfare and customer education, and the store has built a loyal following willing to drive well over an hour to shop there. For freshwater enthusiasts in the Liberty area, this is the kind of neighborhood store that earns repeat visits through trust and expertise.

Amazing customer service, very knowledgeable, but most importantly, variety. There's a little bit of everything for everybody. I personally go for the terrarium and reptile supplies. I can usually find everything and anything I need. They also provide live feeders.

I purchased my red footed tortoise from this place back in 2022. She was a juvenile back when I got her. When I saw her in her cage she was in a cage with a Russian tortoise that was NOT for sale and seemed sick. This was the first red flag. Second was the simple fact that a red footed tortoise SHOULD NEVER be in the same cage as a Russian tortoise. Red footed tortoises are tropical and Russian tortoises are desert, so completely different temps and humidity not to mention the fact that Russians can also be aggressive towards other tortoises. Then when I had them pull her out of the cage and hand her to me, she had bubbles coming out of her nose, which means she is sick with an upper respiratory infection at the very least. With all this in mind, I spent around $900 to get this tortoise home and away from that place. I got her to the vet immediately and she has been diagnosed with mycoplasma which is a life long disease that she will live with for the rest of her life. Luckily, I have a biology degree and know what is needed to care for her. For example, her eyes are very watery all the time due to her condition so she cannot have normal substrate that most tortoises need as it’s too dusty. The dust gets in her eyes, nose, and mouth and only exacerbates her condition. With this in mind, I have to use towels as her bedding for her cage. Because of the use of towels, I have to now worry about her becoming egg bound as she is unable to dig properly so I worry about her ability to lay eggs when she needs to. She has to see the vet every 6 months to monitor her disease and make sure she doesn’t need antibiotics. These vet visits can be up to $400 or more due to the antibiotic needs. I do not regret taking my girl from this place as she would have most likely perished had I not taken my tortoise out of the environment she had been place in and I love her dearly, but I do think that one should be warn about the fact that sick animals have been sold here. I’m just lucky enough to be knowledgeable in biology to understand the full needs to care for a tortoise with a life long disease.

One of the cleanest pet stores I've seen. Fish tanks and plants look great. Very knowledgeable. And willing to answer questions. Bought my aquarium plants there. They are healthy and growing good. I will buy my fish there as soon as my tank is all set up and ready for the fish.

This was our first time here, Garret approached us, greeted me and my son. He was so kind, showed us around and was very educational on everything we inquired about! He did an outstanding job! We will be back. The store was clean and had so many unique animals to look at.
