About

Midwest Aquatics is a locally owned fish and aquarium store in Arnold, MO, serving the greater St. Louis area with both freshwater and saltwater livestock under one roof. If you've been searching for freshwater and saltwater fish for sale near me, the shop keeps a rotating selection on the floor and, thanks to hands-on owner Caleb, can special-order plenty more.

Customers regularly mention that Caleb will sit down, share his supplier lists, and show what additional fish he can bring in, a level of transparency you rarely get at a chain pet store. On the saltwater side, you'll find corals and reef invertebrates available in Arnold, which makes this a genuine aquarium store rather than just a freshwater shop. Freshwater hobbyists come for tetras, including hard-to-find red tetras, along with snails and other invertebrates; the store has even stocked assassin snails, a species that's tough to track down locally.

Live aquarium plants are a staple here too, so it's easy to put together a planted tank in one trip, and the decorations on hand round out most aquascapes. Beyond livestock, Midwest Aquatics carries aquarium equipment and dry goods, so you can grab filters, lighting, and tank gear without a second stop. Reviewers consistently call out the pricing as some of the best in the St.

Louis area, alongside a knowledgeable, friendly owner who clearly loves the hobby and is happy to answer beginner questions. One tip from regulars: hours can vary from what's posted online, so it's worth calling ahead before you drive over. For fishkeepers in Arnold, south St.

Louis County, and the surrounding metro looking for an independent aquarium store with competitive prices and an owner who's genuinely invested in the hobby, Midwest Aquatics is a solid local pick for corals, live plants, tetras, invertebrates, and saltwater and freshwater fish for sale near me.

Customer reviews

  • “Nice selection but a nasty store”

  • “The place was in shambles. Crumbling paint/plaster pieces left all over the floor, strong smell of ammonia throughout, everything looked dirty, screaming kids running around under foot, and a literal dead, dried, flattened fish on the front stoop. It felt like I was walking through someone's dirty home more than it did visiting a public business.”

  • “Friendly owners, but the place smelled awful. There was dog feces on the floor, diseases fish, water everywhere.”

  • “A newer store in the St. Louis area locally owned and operated I got to talk with Caleb and he was really open and honest also allowed me to see what other fish options he could bring in that maybe weren’t seen this store has lots of potential can’t wait to see how it evolves”

  • “I called them yesterday to see if they had Assassin snails and they did! So I stopped by and they have a wonderful selection of fish, and they were super helpful! Will definitely return! Edit: the store is nice, the prices are great, however, I bought some red tetras, brought them home, and realized they had Ich. I called and told them that all the fish died and they replaced my money and IMMEDIATELY treated my tank. 2 weeks later nothing has helped, a few of my previous fish have died, and the fish don't have Ich, they have EPI..... The aquariums in the store don't have any lights, I didn't see the dots until AFTER I got them under a light. I would definitely start getting lights and such on the tank or something.”
