About
New Wave Aquaria is the saltwater and reef specialist that hobbyists across the Twin Cities treat as their home base, and one visit to its Plymouth, MN showroom makes the reputation obvious. Though modest in square footage, the floor is dense with pristine frag tanks and display systems. Reviewers single out a selection of Torches that may be the best in the Midwest, alongside mushrooms, Ricordea, xenia, and green polyps, with ultra coral ranging from $20 OG Green Stylos up to four-figure showpieces.
Marine fish run from exotic clownfish varieties to one of the largest tang selections in the region, and the display tanks hold standouts like a Conspicuous Angel worth lingering over. If you're searching for corals for sale in Plymouth, MN, this is the rare aquarium store where the livestock looks as healthy as it is varied. The dry-goods wall is just as serious.
Customers point to a well-priced, well-stocked lineup that includes BRS supplements, a full line of Red Sea, Hanna reagents, and Polyp Lab Genesis blocks, plus Waterbox aquariums and equipment from EcoTech, Tunze, and Apex. It is thorough enough that most reef keepers can handle a build without leaving the shop. The team also installs custom water-changing stations and, in one memorable case, sent a cord-management pro named Ceasar to tidy the back end of a reefer's system.
What customers return for is the people. Owner Jen, along with Doug, Dean, and Dan, earns repeat praise for honest, hands-on help, like talking a worried owner out of unnecessary ich medication after spotting a constipated clownfish, or personally chasing down an EcoTech light warranty. Tanks are spotless, the atmosphere is comfortable, and reviewers note the crew recently picked up national recognition as a top local fish store.
For Minneapolis-St. Paul reef keepers who want saltwater fish and corals available in Plymouth, MN from people who actually keep reefs, New Wave is hard to beat.

“Amazing "little" saltwater shop! Although its small by sq footage its huge in quality and sheer awesomeness. If you want to see a Conspicuous Angel in person stare into one of the amazing display tanks long enough. I was in town from Kansas City and stopped by. But I would make the drive up there just for corals. The selection of Torches has to be the best in the midwest. Also dry goods are well stocked, well priced. They carry things like BRS supplements, full line of Red Sea stuff, Hanna reagents and even Polyp Lab genesis blocks. Guys working there were super nice and even gave me a little cooler to get my corals back to KC. Looking forward to making another trip soon!”
— Scott Barber5.05 days ago“Jen and Doug are fantastic and New Wave is by far the best LFS in the twin cities. They specifically won multiple awards recently for best LFS nationally. Side note....if you are a serious reefer, have them install one of their custom water changing stations. It will change your life! Side note #2.....Regarding a previous review.....the only "coral eating starfish" are the crown of thorns starfish. If the rock was infesting with them.....that must have been one big rock. They are the size of footballs. lol. Also....If you are seriously into this hobby, you know the cords are a problem. Dosers, pumps, controllers, lights, etc....It can turn into a real mess. If you have a mess on your hands like I did, they have a guy named Ceasar who is a genius at organizing cords and making the back end of your system look amazing. Hiring him was some of the best money I have ever spent!”

They dont know how much I have to spend or my experience level. I finally decided to drop a pretty penny on some coral and feel a bit swindled. Last time I was in this orange mushroom was $25 and now it's $50 and less than dime sized. Same with the orange Ricordea, asked last time and they were $45, today $49. Ok I will take them anyway. Then she saws off the tiniest one from the rock to sell me. Really not a great experience. Also the small amount of rock the corals were on were completely infested with tiny coral eating starfish!! Yikes!”

— Valarie Ford5.03 days ago“Jen at New Wave Aquaria is a terrible business owner. Go anywhere else!! I bought a fish, they said they would call when it comes in, they never did, I had to call and go in store when they said oh we’ve had it for weeks!?! The fish that was given to me (first time fish buyer) already sick but I didn’t know. My plan: get it quickly and safely in my aquarium while following all steps. Fish died a few hours later. I brought the fish and tank water for testing the next day. Jen was mad at me, very short and snappy caring way more about her feelings about the situation and didn’t care at all about mine. After not hearing anything for weeks I called and she was arguing and making accusations. I did a ton of research and spoke to experts and I know I didn’t do anything wrong. I disputed the charge on my CC and I received a nice accusation of fraud and theft and they plan to litigate.”
