About
Animal House is a locally owned pet store on the West Monroe, LA scene that covers a lot of ground — dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, and small animals — but its aquatics wall keeps fish keepers coming back. Reviewers single out the "great section of fish and fish tank items" and the "wonderful selection of fish," and for hobbyists hunting freshwater fish for sale in West Monroe, LA, this is a dependable local stop. The store stocks a rotating mix of freshwater livestock alongside live plants, with Aqueon tanks and Marineland equipment on the shelves for anyone building or upgrading a setup.
Bettas and axolotls are part of the aquatic lineup, and live plants are available in West Monroe for planted-tank keepers who would rather see stems and roots in person than guess from a photo. What sets this fish store apart from the big-box chains is the staff. Tyler earns shout-out after shout-out — one regular calls him the most helpful customer service they have ever had, and he is known for walking people through tank questions, live-plant choices, and care advice without rushing.
Heather is another familiar name, praised for testing water parameters and steering first-timers toward compatible tank mates. That sit-down, remember-your-name attention is what keeps the aquatics crowd loyal. The store recently finished a remodel that customers have noticed — fresh cages, an upgraded reptile room, and a clean, well-kept floor that reviewers mention again and again.
Beyond the tanks, Animal House carries a deep wall of pet food, treats, and toys, runs an in-house grooming shop, and keeps reptile feeders and supplies in stock. It is not without critics — some visitors flag higher prices than the chains and the occasional uneven interaction — but for West Monroe fish keepers who want healthy freshwater stock, live plants, and someone who will actually talk through their tank, Animal House offers the kind of hands-on help the big stores rarely match.

“Not bad but not great the person there that “helped” us was kinda rude also sped through everything I didn’t even really catch what he said and the live rats there are very dirty and sickly looking my ball python I bought there was also in an enclosure with another ball and that is not recommended for plenty of reasons they do have some nice snakes that seam to be decently taken care of but they could definitely fix some things but my ball is very happy and getting comfortable now but they could for sure work on there customer service to I will be going back to possibly buy another snake because they are the only pet store near that has a good verity but will most likely not be getting it’s food or husbandry from there and the women that answered the phone was kinda rude she sounded like it was an issue we were calling and like it wasn’t her job to tell us the snakes they had in store over the phone but other than all that it wasn’t to bad”

She has a 7 year old cat and a3 year old bearded dragon so she knows how to take care of her pets. My daughter said the store is very dirty and animals cages not taken care of.”
