About Petland Topeka

Petland Topeka, located inside a Topeka, Kansas mall, is a full-service pet store that carries a broad range of live animals — puppies, birds, ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters, reptiles, and at one point, aquarium fish, though at least one reviewer notes they've since discontinued their fish section. The store stocks a wide variety of pet supplies and accessories, and the staff is frequently praised for being friendly, patient, and knowledgeable about the animals they carry. For aquarium hobbyists, this location has limited appeal in its current state.

While the store once maintained freshwater fish tanks, multiple reviews suggest that live fish are no longer part of the inventory. Reptile and small animal supplies, including snake care products, are available, and staff members like Josh and Evie have earned loyal customers who return specifically for their expertise and helpful recommendations. The store itself is described as clean and well-organized, situated in an accessible mall setting that draws families looking for a hands-on experience with animals.

Workers are generally noted as warm and accommodating, willing to stay past closing time to help customers make decisions. That said, Petland Topeka generates strong opinions. Pricing is a consistent concern — puppies and other animals are frequently described as expensive, with additional costs that can catch buyers off guard.

Animal care standards have also drawn criticism, with some reviewers pointing to inadequate enclosure sizes and environmental conditions for reptiles and small animals. Others counter that the store is well-maintained and animals appear healthy. For Topeka residents looking for pet supplies and accessories, Petland offers a decently stocked selection.

However, dedicated aquarium enthusiasts will likely need to look elsewhere for fish, corals, and specialized aquatic equipment, as the store's focus has shifted firmly toward terrestrial pets and their care products.

Increíble modelo de negocio que acerca al posible comprador a comprobar de primera mano el animal que quiere comprar. Este modelo de negocio en Europa triunfaría. Negocio serio para franquiciar.

Genuinely abysmal care. Tiny wheels that can cause back injuries with the hamsters, no bedding for them to bury themselves in. Multiple per cage even though they can be territorial. Stressed out parrots with way too many per enclosure. Anyone is allowed to grab the animals and pester them. Multiple kids petting the backs of the birds which can cause behavioral and hormonal issues. Improper diets for all parrots which is causing feather problems. Multiple ball pythons in an enclosure with no hides, enrichment, and an improper substrate. Bearded dragon in a <20 gal enclosure with repticarpet, which can harbor bacteria and cannot be washed. Lack of humidity. No UVB for bearded dragons, meaning they can develop metabolic bone disease and other irreversible issues. Basking bulb and no leaf cover for crested gecko. The created gecko food is a dried powder (without being properly mixed) so they cannot even eat it. Without humidity and being sprayed, the crested geckos and anoles will not be able to drink as they only drink from dew. LACK OF HUMIDITY with animals that require high humidity (red-tail boa, ball pythons, crested geckos, tree frogs, etc) And of course the dogs, where they are all most definitely from puppy mills, even if they tell you otherwise. They claim to be inspected by the USDA, but these inspections happen once a year and are bare minimum federal regulations. I don't blame the employees, I blame the business for poor choices and improper management. Genuinely please go somewhere else, anywhere else, if you want to buy an animal or supplies. These kind of places should not be supported. And these were only a few of the issues I saw from a quick gander. I don't know enough about ferrets, guinea pigs, etc to explain issues regarding their care.

We got our furry friend a new furry friend. Even with all the technical difficulties we had they were still so patient and helpful even after they closed. They answered all the questions and after visiting many animals we found out new furry family member. We love him so much ❤️❤️❤️ thank you guys for all the help ❤️❤️❤️

It’s just sad. Sad life for the puppies, sad life for their over-bred parents. Humans relying on pets to be their income source like this is sad.

A rare find in a mall. Many engaged, staff members large selection of pet items and live pets. Really anything pet related this place had. Or could order. Definitely they know what they’re doing.
