Exotic Guppy has been a fixture of the Twin Falls aquarium scene for decades — some customers have been walking through the door for 25 to 30 years. Run by Richard and his son, this family-owned shop has built its reputation primarily on freshwater fish expertise and genuine, if occasionally long-winded, customer interactions. The staff will walk you through tank setup, cycling, and fish compatibility with the kind of detail that suggests they'd rather talk fish all day than ring up a sale.
The store's core strength is its freshwater selection. Customers consistently praise the health of the fish they take home, and the shop stocks live plants and rock for aquascaping setups. They also carry feeder mice, snakes, and other small animals, though the reptile side of the business draws significantly more criticism — multiple reviewers have flagged overcrowded enclosures and outdated husbandry practices for non-fish animals.
Pricing tends to be fair, and the store promotes filtration equipment and supplies that regulars consider a step above big-box alternatives. For Twin Falls residents tired of the PetCo run, Exotic Guppy offers locally sourced advice and products without the upsell pressure. The shop also hosts regular events, reinforcing its role as a community gathering spot for hobbyists.
That said, the store is not without its friction points. Some customers have reported tense interactions with the owner, particularly around saltwater topics, and a few reviews mention tank cleanliness concerns. The shop does carry some saltwater fish, but reviewers looking for serious reef stock have pointed toward other regional options.
At its best, Exotic Guppy is a place where a kid can pet turtles in the back room while his parents pick up healthy freshwater stock and get honest advice from people who've been doing this for a long time. It's a neighborhood fish store with deep local roots — imperfect, opinionated, and unapologetically focused on the hobby.

Exotic guppy. Stick to fish keeping. Their reptile care knowledgeable is outdated. They do good with fish, but I wouldn't recommend buying reptiles from them because they give incorrect pet knowledge for reptiles and exotics.

Exotic Guppy is our favorite fish store! The staff are so knowledgeable and passionate about everything there. They are also very friendly and willing to listen to my son tell them everything he knows and they gladly answered his million and two questions. Their prices are fair and their fish are healthy. We have yet to have one of their fish die on us for anything other than our own poor care. They promote great products -their filters for example are better than anything at PetCo. You don't have to worry about them Trying to push anything unnecessary on you. Everything they sell they love and understand. It is also fun to pet the fish and turtles in the back. Next visit we will check out their snakes!
