About

Seascape Aquarium & Pet Center has been a Sarasota institution for more than 50 years, and the moment you walk in you understand why locals treat it less like an errand and more like a free aquarium you can actually shop from. Wall after wall of freshwater and saltwater tanks line the store, a resident cat wanders the aisles, and a hands-on bird room in the back keeps kids entertained while parents browse. For reef and marine keepers, this is a full saltwater aquarium store: corals, live rock sold by the pound, and reef fish like firefish are available right here in Sarasota, FL, along with saltwater invertebrates.

Freshwater shoppers will find an in-person selection that's hard to match locally — betta fish, figure 8 puffers, hardy community fish like harlequin rasboras, and live aquarium plants for planted-tank setups, all for sale near you. If you're searching for a fish store in Sarasota that carries both ends of the hobby under one roof, this is it. Value is the other thing reviewers can't stop mentioning.

New and secondhand tanks, plus aquarium equipment and complete starter packages, routinely sell for a fraction of big-box prices — one customer left with a 29-gallon setup, heater, air pump, tubing, vacuum, and filter for around $100. Free water testing and honest reef-tank consultations round things out; staff have walked first-time coral keepers through everything from equipment selection to water chemistry, and tank-setup help is part of the deal. Beyond the aquariums, Seascape is a true pet center, with reptiles, birds like cockatiels, and small animals such as guinea pigs and bunnies.

But for Sarasota fish keepers, the draw is the depth of livestock, the knowledgeable staff, and prices that make building your first freshwater or saltwater tank genuinely affordable.

  • “Went in to see if i could find a new tank for my beta. Happily I found a nice glass tank. A man was in the store that cleans aquariums for customers helped me. Not sure how knowledgable he is but he had a great deal of advice. I bought a great little hide that i found in the reptile area that worked well for my axolotl. I purchased a Auquatop Venti. Very attractive tank for Snowflake. She is very happy! I would have given this place a 5 star however when I started looking for filter replacements i notice that the $150 proce tag I paid was being sold for $90 online. I dont mind paying a bit more and try to shop local but i feel $60 more is outrageous! I am wondering if they charged me right or not?”
