About
Ray's Tank in Northglenn, Colorado has built a devoted following among Denver-metro hobbyists who come for exotic freshwater fish you simply won't find at the big-box chains. The shop itself is small, but regulars describe the selection as huge — wall-to-wall tanks holding an ever-rotating cast of rare and unusual species. Giant arowanas, alligator gar, fahaka puffers, tiger parrot fish, blood parrots, and electric blue jack dempseys turn up alongside Cory catfish, panda garras, dwarf crayfish, oranda fancy goldfish, freshwater shrimp, mystery snails, and a healthy stock of live aquatic plants.
One longtime customer called it the best variety of fish in the state, and a first-time visitor said it beat the Denver Aquarium. What keeps people driving back, though, is the staff. Names like Jacob, Eric, Zach, and Jessie come up again and again — not just for being friendly, but for taking real time with people.
They'll walk a newcomer through fishless cycling, sort out cichlid compatibility before you commit to a blood parrot setup, and answer an eight-year-old's questions with the same patience as a seasoned keeper's. One reviewer whose first language isn't English praised how they slow down and never rush. Families get welcomed even when they're "just looking," and the kids often leave with fish stickers.
The tanks are consistently clean and the fish look genuinely healthy — staff are often mid water-change when you walk in. Owner Ray and his crew are known for honest advice over the hard sell, telling you to wait if your tank isn't ready and tossing in an extra plant or shrimp when it feels right. If you're hunting exotic freshwater fish for sale in Northglenn, CO, Ray's Tank has earned its place as the area's go-to fish store.
Stop in to browse the livestock in person — plenty of folks say it's well worth the drive.

— Riverview Ranch Rottweilers5.0a month ago“Stopped by this fish store on a whim and I’m so glad we did! The staff greeted my family right away and made us feel welcome even after I mentioned we were “just looking.” One employee even gave my kids fish stickers, which absolutely made their day. Even though the store itself is small, the selection of fish is HUGE. I saw so many unique and beautiful fish I didn’t even know existed. The prices were fair — not cheap, but definitely reasonable for the quality and selection. All of the tanks were very clean, the fish looked healthy and well cared for, and the overall vibe of the store was great. We genuinely enjoyed our visit and will probably be back soon to buy a few fish and plants. This is easily the best fish store I’ve visited and honestly better than the Denver Aquarium experience. Highly recommend this place to any fish lovers or aquarium owners!”
