Tucked into the small mountain town of Craig, Colorado, The Jungle Pet Shop has earned a devoted following across the Yampa Valley and well beyond. Owner Clint has built something genuinely unusual for a remote corner of Northwest Colorado: a densely stocked, jungle-themed store where the freshwater aquariums rival small public aquariums in variety and cleanliness, the houseplant collection draws comparisons to botanical gardens, and the livestock — from tropical fish to shrimp, snails, reptiles, and parrots — is visibly healthy and meticulously cared for. The freshwater fish selection is the shop's backbone.
Reviewers consistently praise the quality and diversity of tropical species, and Clint's willingness to walk customers through compatibility, tank setup, and long-term care. One customer credited his guidance with successfully transporting 30-plus fish from Colorado to Massachusetts without a single loss. The shop also stocks live plants, and the plant section has become a destination in its own right — customers describe rare and unique specimens at prices that make the 45-minute drive from surrounding towns worthwhile.
Beyond fish, The Jungle carries a full range of supplies: tanks, food, equipment, and feeder insects from their own cricket farm. Reptile and amphibian keepers rely on the shop for supplies, wax worms, and knowledgeable guidance on animal health care. The store genuinely feels immersive — multiple reviewers note that stepping inside is like walking into an actual jungle, with lush displays and well-maintained animal habitats throughout.
Clint and his staff are the engine behind the experience. They freely share advice, offer detailed care recommendations, and will order specialty items if they're not in stock. For a store in a town as small as Craig, the depth of expertise is remarkable.
A few customers have noted that service can feel rushed if you're browsing without buying, but the overwhelming consensus is that The Jungle is a rare resource — a thoughtfully curated, independently run shop where the animals come first and the knowledge runs deep.

Bought two guniea pigs from the jungle at different times both times there were issues, biggest issue i had, they didn't sex the guniea pigs properly. so I got a male instead of a female and when I contacted the pet store and proved it was a boy i was told the solution was to drive the 45 minutes back to the store with the pig and pay 15 dollars more to purchase the remaining guniea pig at the store instead because that one should be a female

This shop is the only place I have found in the yampa valley that sells beautiful unique plants at amazing prices. The owners are so kind and helpful and the rare plants they have are worth the drive.

This place is AWESOME! We have a beautiful aquarium set up and collect tarantulas, so we have a lot of mouths to feed. The Jungle has, by far, the best quality and selection of food and supplies to keep all our pets happy and healthy. They are extremely knowledgeable and always happy to help. They also have one of the best (and coolest!) selections of house plants. You can tell that they really care about their shop and their clients and put their hearts into what they do. This place is a GEM in the mountains.

I've spent a ton of money at this place. I set up several aquariums using stuff and fish and plants purchased at this store....I even donated all my tanks back to Clint when I moved so he could use them for whatever. I've even left good reviews in the past. I recently got another 55 gallon tank so I went to the jungle to get some ideas and see what was new. I told Clint I was just looking around and he seemed immediately irritated with me. I asked a couple questions and he was extremely short with me to the point of not answering my questions. I guess if you're ready to spend money, they're super accommodating. But if you're just checking the store out or seeing what's new, Clint acts like he doesn't have the time of day for you and is somewhat rude...even though he's just standing around. You run a pet shop, Clint. You're not warren buffett. I'll spend my money online from now on. Thanks

This place is fantastic! I first started coming here years ago for the incredible plant collection, and now I’m a proud owner of fish, shrimp, and snails. Everything in this shop is top-notch and meticulously cared for. The owner and staff are always polite, helpful, and ready to assist with anything you need. I highly recommend this shop for all your 'jungle' needs! It’s also a great place to visit when you’re bored—perfect for browsing and killing time. Just be warned: you might leave with a few new 'homies'!
