Seascape Aquatics in Colorado Springs has been a fixture of the local fishkeeping scene for well over a decade, and the store's longevity comes down to one undeniable strength: exceptionally healthy livestock. Reviewers consistently report that fish purchased here outlast and outperform anything from chain stores, with multiple customers describing an end to mass die-offs after switching from big-box stock to Seascape's freshwater and saltwater offerings. The tanks themselves are immaculately maintained — often cited as the cleanest in the Springs — and the owners refuse to sell fish that aren't in peak condition.
The store carries a solid selection of tropical freshwater fish, saltwater species, corals, invertebrates, and live plants, along with aquarium wood, stone, and general supplies. Betta fish get notably better treatment here than at most shops, housed in spacious tanks rather than cramped cups. Several customers specifically visit Seascape as their go-to source for live aquarium plants, and prices are competitive with — sometimes beating — online retailers.
Now, the elephant in the room. A significant number of reviews describe the husband-and-wife owners as blunt, gruff, or outright condescending, particularly when customers ask questions. The woman has drawn the most pointed criticism for what many perceive as a dismissive attitude, though opinions genuinely split — other visitors describe her as passionate, knowledgeable, and helpful.
The gentleman tends to get better marks for sociability, though he's had his off days too. Some loyal customers interpret the directness as honest, no-nonsense advice from people who care deeply about animal welfare and won't sugarcoat what it takes to keep fish alive. What's not debatable is the quality of what's swimming in those tanks.
If you're in Colorado Springs and want healthy fish, thriving plants, and clean corals from a store that clearly prioritizes animal husbandry above all else, Seascape Aquatics delivers. Just be prepared for owners who are more focused on their fish than on pleasantries.

I come here when I have a pretty good idea what I want. The fish are among the healthiest in Springs. This is also usually my prime spot to pick up live plants for my freshwater aquarium.

Knowledgeable on both fresh and saltwater aquariums and everything you can put in them. Very nice and helpful.

Most beautiful and clean fish store I've ever been too, the woman was very helpful in answering my questions. I loved seeing the Betta fish so well looked after too, they were kept in nice big tanks.

I went to this store to look for a item. When I walked in, there was 1 customer checking out and I stood behind her. The cashier carried on with her conversation with the customer as if I was not there. The customer was not asking any questions at this time, just listening about something in Germany. The cashier could've at least said, please give me a minute or some type of acknowledgement. Poor customer service as if there was not another customer standing there. Considering she could not acknowledge me, I walked out. I'm sure it didn't make any difference to her.

We’ve spent hundreds of dollars in this store because the fish are genuinely better quality than what you typically find in a Petco fish department. Unfortunately, the owners’ attitudes overshadow everything else. The older woman who usually bags the fish is consistently condescending and rude. Do not bother asking questions—you will leave feeling talked down to, as if you were stupid for even wanting to learn something. The older gentleman at the register is no better. The vibe is basically: grab your stuff, pay, and get out. That kind of energy makes every visit uncomfortable, no matter how nice the fish selection is. My most recent interaction was the final straw. I will never come back. At this point, I would rather drive all the way to Denver to Aqua Rocks Colorado. Their customer service is miles better, their fish are healthier, and the selection is bigger. If you truly feel like you have no other option, sure—you can come here. But go in with low expectations when it comes to the owners’ behavior. And I am far from the only person saying this; plenty of other reviews share the exact same experience.

This is perhaps the most detail-oriented fish store in the Springs. I was very impressed with how clean every tank was and how every single living thing in their care looked to be in excellent health. The owners were helpful, thoughtful, and it's clear they care very much about their creatures.

The older woman who runs this store was absolutely rude to me when I asked her honest questions about various fish and tank setups. She talked down to me and was essentially upset that I was asking her questions. She told me "you need to do your homework" as if my asking her questions didn't qualify as my attempt at some in-person research. I do not recommend giving your business here.

Way better than the big box stores, the fish I've bought here are healthy and the tanks are clean and well maintained. Don't get some of the negative reviews, they're always friendly, maybe they actually give constructive feedback instead of just telling you what you want to hear like the other places.

Seascape Aquatics is the best local fish store in the Springs! Owners are extremely knowledgeable and always willing to take time to talk with customers about any questions/conerns they have in the fish keeping hobby. Great selection of fish (fresh and salt water), plants, aquarium wood and stone, and general supplies. Prices match and sometimes even beat online prices! Highly recommend checking out Seascape Aquatics if you're in the area and need some fish/supplies.
