About

Golden Guppy Aquarium is a compact, meticulously kept aquarium store tucked into a Torrance strip with easy parking, and it has earned a devoted South Bay following since opening. Owner Cody runs the shop alongside knowledgeable staff like Andrew (whom regulars call Drew) and Steve, and reviewers return again and again to the same praise: spotless tanks, crystal-clear water, and visibly healthy livestock. " The heart of the store is freshwater.

You'll find cichlids, koi, bettas, caridina shrimp, snails, and a rotating cast of tropical community fish — one visitor recently stopped in specifically to wait on a fresh shipment of tiger barbs. If you're searching for healthy aquarium fish for sale in Torrance, CA, this is the kind of shop where staff actually know each species and steer you toward what fits your tank. They also bring in marine livestock from sustainable, quality suppliers, and there's a charming mini indoor pond on display inside.

Plants are a genuine strength. Staff walk you through care, lighting, and growth so you can build a thriving planted tank, and the hardscape selection rounds out any aquascape. Beyond livestock, Golden Guppy stocks aquarium supplies and accessories, plus a few dog and cat products — one reviewer was delighted to find cat treats — making it a practical stop for pet owners nearby.

Pricing comes up constantly as fair and affordable, and a customer rewards program sweetens repeat visits. If something isn't in stock, the team will order it from their wholesaler and call you within days when it arrives for pickup. They also post daily livestock updates on their social media.

For Torrance hobbyists hunting "fish store near me" and tired of big-box options, Golden Guppy offers real expertise, healthy animals, and a neighborhood shop that genuinely cares about the hobby.

  • “Not very friendly. I got an unfriendly vibe entering this business. I was recommended to go by an employee at a chain petstore that has been great in our lengthy process in setting up a new fish tank for my 11 year old. It had been an ordeal and we finally were able to get the water right to purchase a betta. We got one at the chain store and through the recommendation of the lovely worker at the chain store we decided to see if we could find the second fish for our set up. When we arrived at the guppy store, one of the guys was downright unfriendly. He was not helpful and a little rude. I was there with my little girls but they didn't pick up on it. I tried to make the best of the vibe and then proceeded to ask where the bettas were in addition to how to tell the difference between a male and female. There were no labels as we saw the selection they had on the way in. Instead of maybe showing us he mouthed off something about how to tell and pointed in the direction. I have no idea about fish, much less on how to tell them a part. I was taken back by the way he brushed me off and pointed in the direction. Like figure it out.. there over there. The man next to him I think picked up on it and jumped in. He took us over and showed us what he had. I showed my girls as they were present and by that time was turned off on the idea of giving this business any of my money. We left after that without saying anything to the other chain store to see there selection and found a beautiful koi female. My little girls are so happy! Sorry for the long narrative, kind of venting on my experience. I didn't appreciate the customer service. Good luck! Reply to owners comment: The response given is expected given my experience. This person completely dismissed my experience and replaced it with what he thought would best represent himself. I did ask about the female koi, but that was not the deal breaker. I further asked for help as indicated above and was given a mediocre response from behind a desk instead of providing customer service and actually showing what you have to offer. I felt it was rude the way they treated me, but that feeling I had and experience is being dismissed by this person by what he thinks the level of service was. We were not searching for a specific fish at multiple stores and this narrative that you are describing is ridiculous. I posted this so that maybe there could be some accountability, and maybe if you felt you did good, maybe the proper response would have been to apologize and just say that it is appreciated to have this brought to your attention for improvement in the future. To better your business and respect the experiences of the ppl that will ultimately support your business. Because you do have a small business and it is tuff. Instead your response was fake and tailored to describe to others what you think happened to lighten the criticism of your service, instead of just addressing the person and maybe just saying sorry for the miscommunication and will be more conscious of it in the future.”
